I am not familiar with UC Davis Dept. of Urology, but I certainly would feel more comfortable in a medical school environment.

While the place is important, ever more so is the expertise of the surgeon doing the procedure. If you are interested, for example, in a neobladder you want to know specifically how many per year your urologist does and how long he has been doing them. At least 25-35 per year is minimal. Think of it as if you had a very expensive foreign sports car; you wouldn’t trust it to a mechanic who just graduated from jr college and has never seen one! You would look for someone who specializes in your particular model.
