Tumor right after Gemcitabine treatment!
Hello everyone. My first tumor was removed in oct 2019 + 6 bcg inductions. Had 2nd removal in Dec 2020, smaller in size, another 6 bcg course. Recent recurrence was June 2024. He removed and was very small. He prescribed a 6 mitomycin induction to start in august; 2nd opinion advised to do Gemcitabine instead due to lower side effects and high success rate. Got cystoscopy and ct scans in September which showed bladder was all clean. The new doctor suggested to do Gemcitabine treatment anyway reduce recurrent chance by 50%. Did the 6 weeks course and had my follow up cystoscopy this past Wednesday and a tumor had appeared! Has anyone had this happen to them? The Gemcitabine treatment actually promoted the cancer recurrence? I am at total loss and have no idea what could have happened. Has the treatment by killing bladder liner cells made me more vulnerable to have tumor, will it turn invasive since liner is compromised? I watched the scan on the screen and it did not look anything like the scan right before the chemo induction. He has now scheduled surgery for Dec 31st.
Any insight on this is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
