  • Three Month Cystoscopy

Posted by Mistersac on June 20, 2017 at 3:10 pm

My 3 month cystoscopy is scheduled for July 5th. My initial diagnosis was non invasive CIS, and I went through 6 BCG treatments, had a biopsy that was clean. I have not experienced any negative symptoms, i.e. bleeding or burning, and continue to exercise and stay fit. However as I approach my cystoscopy that will be done in my Uro’s office I am hopeful that it will continue to be clean, but need to prepare if it is not. If it is not would I be put on 6 more BCG treatments? If it is clean would I be put on 3 maintenance BCG treatments. What is the likely hood of a good result given the clean result after the initial biopsy post BCG?

    Congratulations on your good cysto!!!

There are pros and cons to having cystos so often. When I went from 3 to 6 months between I was really nervous, but that was nothing compared to when I went to annual checkups. Sort of an initial panic that they wouldn’t find it soon enough if it came back! Your doc is taking a really careful approach….I like that.

I just had my three month cysto on Monday, Nov 13th, and I’m all clear! So I can relax for another three months.

My plan of action according to the doc is cysto every three months between now and August, 2018, with two rounds of BCG, one in Feb and one in Aug, 3 treatments each time. Then, because of the size of my tumor, my doc said I might need a cysto every three months for the rest of my life, maybe every six months if I’m lucky. I’m not happy with that part but I do like knowing I’m C-free!

    Alan,

I am also fascinated to see what the inside of Bladder looks like when my doctor conducted the cystoscopy. Have scheduled a biopsy in two weeks and hope to get things cleared out.

    Thanks!

Could be one of many things including scar tissue. Could be a spot where the BCG irritated. Could be a blood vessel. Yes, it could be a growth. Chances are it is nothing. I understand the concern. We all have that even us old timers at 9-10 years out. You simply won’t know anything until the biopsy however, it is always one day at a time!

Just went for my 1st cysto after my 6 BCG which finished in Aug. He showed me what he was looking from the monitor. Everything looks smooth but only one small spot that my doctor is not sure. He said it might be a scar tissue from TURBT. And will schedule a biopsy soon.

I have been feeling great after my TURBTs and BCGs. The urine sample is clear, all normal.
Not sure what is ahead, anyone has similar experience/advice?

    Thanks!

    Alan,

Just had follow up cystoscopy, and everything was clean. Next check moved out to 6 months, back to the links with a clear head. Thanks for your help and support.

Your request is way over my pay grade. However, each 3 month that you are clear the odds are it is not coming back. We all have that “monkey” in the back of our minds. We simply have to go on and continue our living and try and not worry about it. Probability says most of us will die from something else!

    Alan,

With your experience, and given the clean biopsy, and 3 month follow up clean cystocopy, are there signs to look for to predict another clean cystoscopy? I am feeling fine, working out regularly, playing a lot of golf. No burning, no bleeding, nothing unusual.

Mistersac, live your life. I’d plan that Florida trip and find a URO that will give you that 3 month BCG follow up. I would check and see which supplier they use as there are 2 different makers last I heard. 2 clean reports! I’d feel optimistic!

As I approach another 3 month cystoscopy on October 4th I am unsettled but optimistic. I was diagnosed last November with non invasive CIS, had 6 BCG treatments, followed by a biopsy that was clean, and a cystoscopy 3 months later that was also clean. I have felt great work out regularly, play a ton of golf, and live my life. I know there are no crystal balls, but should I be optimistic about the upcoming cystoscopy? I hope to get clearance to book a winter in Florida if it is.

I have had a clean biopsy after 6 rounds of BCG, and a clean cystoscopy 3 months later. My initial diagnosis was non invasive CIS . I have another 3 month check on October 5th, and I hope it is clean again. I am hoping to go to Florida for the winter at the Villages in January a large retirement community, and I have been in contact with a urology group there who are equipped to treat bladder cancer. I was interested to see if there were anyone in the forum who has switched Urologists.

    Sara Anne,

Your reply that odds are I would be clean, can this be calculated based on an initial clean biopsy after BCG, and not visible symptoms since. CIS is reported to be responsive to BCG, and the initial clean biopsy seemed to indicate that. Also is a cystoscopy just 3 months later a fair timeline to get a measurement of result?

I’m in the same boat. I am on the three month cycle (in fact I have to call my doctor as I am a week late – what’s up doc?!?) After my cysto clears me I feel free as a bird for several months but as the next cysto draws near I start to wonder what I’ll do if “it” returns.
