I have just finished the book, The Emperor of All Maladies…a
Biography of Cancer” by Siddhartha Mukherjee. I highly recommend it. I understand that it was on the New York Times list of the ten best books of 2010.

It is not a scientific tome, but rather written for the educated layman. If a passage gets a bit “thick” you won’t miss anything by skipping it! It reviews cancer from earliest times through the findings of the last year or so and beautifully puts it into perspective.

It is a real eye-opener about the futility of throwing money at a problem that isn’t ready to “crack.”

Some true stories are better than any novel!!

I bought that book a few months ago and it’s been on my pile of “to be read” books. Based on your recommendation, I think I’ll move it to the top of the list.
