Susan in Houston quick update
Posted by mssmr on May 7, 2008 at 5:57 pmQuickly — I’ll be hospitalized for chemotherapy for 4 days Ifex, doxorubicin and
gemzar. Unfortunately, I’ve had progression in liver and lungs. One risk
is becoming very sick due to emergent liver problems. I chose to proceed with this treatment rather than stop active treatment at this time. I don’t know when I’ll be
able to connect with you again. my best to all — Susanmssmr replied 16 years, 9 months ago 9 Members · 25 Replies -

Hi, I’ll be quick today. Saw Dr. Millikan. CMP good but neutropenic (sp.) again.
Feel ok though. I am able to eat, so suggestions of low white count favorites will
be most welcome. Platelets holding their own. I go back in on Monday if nothing dramatic happens. my best to all — Susan -
I’m glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better and are able to enjoy meals. I am holding you in the light.

GuestMay 14, 2008 at 11:59 pmSounds like you’re doing really well to me…and your spelling is correct…Doxarubicin is the generic for Adriamycin. They are really throwing lots of new combinations at you and you seem to be responding….continued success and positive outlook………..Pat
Thank you, Flamenco — When I’m feeling ok or ok+ I try to stay smiling and positive because that tends to make me feel a little better than I “should”
hee hee — appreciativley — Susan
Hi Susan,
Glad to hear you·re feeling good. feel like I really know you, and just want you to know that my thoughts and best wishes are with you in this battle. I think you are a real trooper and look forward to your posts. I think your positive attitude is a great weapon in this fight. thinking of you
FlamencoHi to all — I feel good today (ok, its the new good, but the best in abot 2 weeks).
I also have a little time and computer access. So this update may not be so quick and it is certainly not all good.My liver mets had increased in size and number on my most recent scan. I was
quickly informed I’d begin inpatient chemo that day and I actually declined to see the report until my next visit with the dr. this coming Friday. You’ve had the quick reports since then, but I can add this.
I was in the clinic for a neulasta shot on Monday and Dr. M. saw me and came
in to say “you look fabulous.” (which I took as somewhat better than might be
expected.)I’ll see him again Friday after bloodwork and there could actually be early
blood indicators and physical indicators of effectiveness. Here’s what I got: Ifex, Gemzar and (I don’t know how to spell either of the names of this one to come) Doxarubicin/Adriamycin.
I’ve eaten two small but hearty meals today and feel as if I could socialize for
an hour or so if the situation presented itself — well, I guess it did — I’m here
ain’t I????My best to all — Susan
Thanks, all — I found a little forum time today. I feel better –less bloated than yesterday. Still in haste — Susan
My thoughts are with you Susan…Happy Mothers Day! Can’t wait till you are back home and you can get back to the Forum
Best Wishes and Prayers,
Karen

Hi and in haste — got released today, midday. now observaton and monitoring for
about a week before I can go home. So far, my main issue is bloating and waiting for
my fluid balance to adjust. The docotor on call says it might take a few days but to call back if I get short of breath.Back at our hotel and it is a nice day. We took a walk. My friend is at the store.
She said I can use the computer again.Trying to prevent mouth sores and minimize blood effects are goals this week.
Of course my family all misses me and I them on Mothers Day. Nice calls, fruit and flowers. I just realized it may be ok to wish anyone Happy Mothers Day. If you’re not one, you have one — Love to all — Susan
Dear Susan,
I am catching up on all updates as I have been out of the loop for a while visiting family in the UK.
I just want to wish you all the very best with your first treatments and hope and pray that side effects are minimal.
Glad to hear your friend is with you in Houston and you are not alone…
Thinking of you..

ABLSCGuestMay 10, 2008 at 12:52 amSusan, Nothing like having friends with benefits,,nothing wrong with that, glad she is there to be with you during this critical time, hope your geling!!!
GingerHi, everybody — THe positives, I mentioned: It’s probably as much the prayer as the premeds!!!!!!! Yesterday,I had some trouble with ankle swelling, so I have a diuretic and we’re watching electrolyte balance. My liver function numbers came back better than anticipated though — it is still functioning adequately. Having my friend here is a real blessing. (This is her computer, for example ;D) No, really, it is great to have her supporting me. Love to all — Susan
