So, I apologize for posting here. I’m not technically diagnosed with bladder cancer. But this past week has been a whirlwind and I’m just still in shock from what’s happening.

I’m a 32 year old woman. I was referred to a urologist for blood in my urine (microscopic). Every step of the way, I expected to be told it was a fluke or it was something else.

Yesterday I had my cystoscopy done. Lo and behold, there’s two spots/tiny tumors in my bladder.

The doctor cauterizes them right there immediately and has the nurse order cytology on my urine sample.

I’ve heard cytology isn’t that reliable. Should I be nervous because he didn’t take a biopsy? I’m going back in 6 months even if the cytology is negative just to make sure nothing grew back. I’m just at a loss. I totally didn’t expect something like this.

Sorry you have to be here. It is hard to say what you are dealing with without a biopsy and pathology report to go by. And yes urine cytology does have a certain percentage of false positives and negatives. If your questions are not being answered by your current Urologist you might think about getting a second opinion with a Urologist that handles a high volume of bladder cancer.
