Some surprising developments
Posted by Jmema on October 6, 2011 at 2:28 pmFor the last four years in Oct. I have been able to post that my cat scan was all clear but this year (the magic 5th,year) I was hoping to post the same and was surprised to hear there was a lesion on my liver. An MRI and fine needle biopsy showed mets to the liver which they said is very unusual after all this time and I start chemo on Monday. The pain came on suddenly after I picked up some heavy groceries so I attributed it to a pulled muscle. After a very quick exam that did not even include listening to my heart of chest, even tough I was having trouble breathing my primary care physician said it was a rotater cuff injury with referred pain and to take some celebrex. He and I have never been on the same page so I bit the bullet and went to another GP who could not believe he had let me out of the office without ordering X-Rays. I am now under very good care with a fabulous oncologist (voted the best in CT.) and I am hopeful that I will be able to extend my life. Ialways said I would not do chemo but I didn’t like the alternative. I feel that I have to give it my best shot for my family. Some of you who have know me for a long time know how important my children, grandchildren and greatgrandson are to me.
I have been thinking about Zak’s blog “I can do this standing on my head” and my brave sweet Claire and Pat who always has the answers. I might be asking you some questions.

My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ABLCS or anyone else. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.Because of the pain I have been in they were afraid of mets to the bones so last Monday I had a back X-Ray and a bone scan. Then on Tuesday I had my ct. scan. The bone scan showed severe arthritis with very back degeneration of the lower spine and thankfully no mets. My ct. scan showed that the two lymph nodes had calcified which he said is good and there were no mets to the liver and the bad spot in my left kidney was gone. He was very pleased with the results and of course I am too. I have my last regular chemo on Friday and going forward he wants to do a low dose of gemzar, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. He said urothelial carcinoma is so aggressive and always looking for somewhere to go he doesn’t want to take any chances. I am willing to try and see how it goes. I feel very blessed with these results. Dr. Magnifico thinks that if I get the arthritis pain u nder control things will be a lot better and I believe he is right. I am going to physical therapy and as soon as it gets warm enough I will be able to walk in our pool so we will see how it goes. For now I am so incredibly thankful that we can keep this under control.
Blessings….JeanHope the counts bounce back soon Jean! My were a little low but not low enough to delay. Got my day 8 Gemcitibine infusion on Wednesday. Hope the pain gets under control.

Forum ModeratorMy numbers were too low to have chemo so they postponed it until Wed. 17th. They have also ordered a back X-Ray and a bone scan becuse of the severe pain in my back and hip. I have gone to physical therapy and the therapist says he thinks it is arthritis in my back and brusitis in my hip. Dr. Magnifico just wants to make sure nothing else is going on. I also have my ct. scan this week even though I have one more chemo to go. I have been feeling pretty awful with the added pain but I know it will get better and when things get really bad I offer it up for Cole and Victoria (the grands) and then it has a purpose and it’s not just yuuk and pain…..anyway it works for me.
Blessings….JeanGlad you had a good Easter with the family, and that your chemo was ok·d too.Bit of a drag if you have to go with the transfusión, but it will give you a boost if they do it.
Hello Jean… Glad you were able to get your chemo today.
Sounds like a wonderful family Easter! And, yes, our loved ones do make those hard days bearable and the good days even more so…
