I saw my Ostomey nurse today and she did not have an answer for me so I hope you “Bag People” might.

I don’t even know if I can explain this right….

There are times when I feel a slight pressure or build up in the “lips” or wall (female area) as if I had to Pee and couldn’t wait much longer. A few times I have caught myself sitting on the toilet. It goes away but I don’t know if it is normal.

My ostomey nurse doesn’t have a lot of women patients to even get a comparison from and not all have the Ileal conduit. Women are still a minority in this small group. She did say that we (BC people) have to look out for ourselves and be our own advocates.

I wondered if this feeling was like having an itch on a limb that has been cut off. Hopefully someone will have experienced this. If not, she says I will have to see the Urologist. I like him I really don’t want to go there.

    Thanks,
    BJ

It is now 8 months since surgery and I must say this feeling has lessened.

I am a brand new user here and I too have experienced this sensation. I am a woman, 62 had my bladder removed and have an Ileal conduit also. My surgery was Feb 9th, 2009. I have a bag and all I can say is you are not the only one. I think the same as you that it is natural. Also I notice this comes at times when I should empty my bag like if I have fallen asleep and awakened to this. That it may be a pressure like that when the bag is nearing a high level or weight it could be still signaling time to Pee. Lucky

That is too funny! I have definitely had the ‘urge’. Usually I found it was at times when I would normally ‘go’ before (i.e.I use to pee before going out). Yes, it was (almost) like old times.

I sort of laughed at myself as I was backing up to the john. Glad to hear that I’m not the only one!

I wondered if anyone else had the phantom urge!! I did it i don’t know how many times soon after my surgery….it did go away after the first few months. I’d just sit there and laugh at myself:laugh:

    BJ,

You are not the first to have experienced this having said that I am not a doctor so of course talk to your doctor about it. In my experience it comes and goes by that I mean I go through times it is there and times it is not. Someone told me and I have found it to be true that they sit on the toilet and after a bit the feeling goes away. I have also been told that you are right it is a phantom feeling. Hope this makes you feel better about it.

    Cynthia
