  • Second TURB after TURBT

Had my TURB with Dr. Bochner at MSK Friday. I am just over 6 months TURBT for T1 G3 w CIS. Second look TURB in August originally call benign then amended to high grade. Following that I had 6 weeks mitomycin due to BCG shortage.

End of November I went to see Dr. Bochner for another opinion and immediately chose to move my case with him. He scoped me and saw lots of red areas most likely from mitomycin. Urine demonstrated abnormal cells so we scheduled TURB to confirm where we are.

My experience with MSK has been outstanding from the start! The staff, facilities, and sense of urgency and professionalism are at a higher level across the board.

Dr. Bochner met with my wife after the procedure and said he had a good look around and no visible lesions. We’ll get biopsy results by end of next week.

I could not believe how good I felt just a day after my procedure! Pain right after the procedure was high and was immediately treated with Fentanyl – boy is that stuff gooood ; ). I was a little anxious that they would not send me home with pain medication other than tylenol and Uro MP. They said the pain medication could hinder my getting back to normal urination. And I guess they were right. First 12 hours were tough and lots of burning.

But I did not feel this good this soon the last two times for sure.

Thank you Dr. Bochner and MSKCC!

The good news is you are on the way to beating this!

Good news! Biopsy report in. Still have CIS. Meeting with MD next week to discuss treatment options including possible SWOG BCG trial.

    Relieved there’s no progression.

Good to see another Western NY’er!

I originally didn’t want to put me and the family in position of traveling to NYC for every procedure and check ups.

But now that I’ve done it – and if you saw on my other post found that URMC misdiagnosed my second look biopsy in August – I’m a true believer.

Have a cousin in Westchester who said stay with him anytime.

“Dr. Bochner .. said he had a good look around and no visible lesions.”
That’s some good news right there. Thanks for checking back in with us.
I thought about you last week when I drove a buddy from Syracuse to Univ of Rochester for a neuro issue he is facing. I recalled you started your journey there, but opted to seek treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering and had an appointment on 1/10 for a second look. Should my situation progress and the need for a higher level of care (a Center of Excellence perhaps) arises, MSK would be an option for me. I’m paying close attention to your journey and your experience at MSK.

Fingers crossed on the biopsy result and wish the best outcome for you.

Thanks for posting! Your situation confirms that second opinions are often good and we also need to be advocates for ourselves. Well done!
