I posted this under invasive bladder cancer because there was much concentration on treatments etc for invasive bladder cancer. There was also some on superficial. The resounding thing to me was when Dr. O’Donnel said “find a doctor that is a specialist in bladder cancer and not just a urologist that treats bladder cancer.: That may be a bit paraphrased. Anway well worth listening to.

Telephone Education Workshop on Bladder Cancer
On February 7, 2007, CancerCare hosted a free telephone education workshop entitled “Medical Update on Bladder Cancer.” This workshop was presented in partnership with BCAN, along with many other patient and professional organizations. More than 500 people participated in this workshop, and heard presentations from Walter Stadler, MD, FACP, Professor, Director Genitourinary Oncology, University of Chicago; Michael O’Donnell, MD, FACS, Professor and Director of Urologic Oncology, University of Iowa, Joanne Walker, RN, MS, CWOCN, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions; and Keith Lyons, MSW, Program Coordinator for Gastrointestinal Cancers, CancerCare.

If you were unable to join the telephone conference, the telephone replay of this program is now available, 24-hours/day, 7 days a week, by calling 1-800-625-5288, and entering the access code 958994. (You will be prompted to enter your name and phone number. All that is required is your first name). The audio replay of this workshop will be available for download from the CancerCare archives soon.

Hello Rosie I just had the opportunity to listen to the CancerCare telephone program. It was very informative. As newly diagnoised I am going through tremendous anxiety on choosing the device for the urine. One day its the bag and the next moment it is the pouch. I hope I can be directed to find the site where each person shares their personal preference. My surgery is March 2, 2007 at Sloan Kettering. Please anyone reading this respond to me I so need help in this decision. Ellen

Thank you Rosie, that’s cool that it gets replayed!
There was some great info from the skin/ostomy wound care nurse that I hadn’t seen anywhere before. I’ve been reading more and more articles and studies concluding that bladder cancer gets better outcomes when people go to high volume institutions and experts in the field of uro-oncology.
