Really Could Use some advice from you guys…
Posted by rickles on November 17, 2009 at 3:37 amIm a 32 year old male. I have had a funny feeling after urinating for the last few months. A sensitive feel in my penis with a slight feel like i have to urinate more. Kind of a pressure feel. I also had some back and side pain on and off. My urine also has a foamy look to it the last month. Just last week I went to my doctor who found small traces of blood in urine. No infection when the culture of the urine was done. I did an ultra sound on Thursday and they are still looking that over. the woman who gave me the ultra sound said she didn’t see anything unusual. . Anyway does that sound like typical bladder cancer symptons or something else? Im really freaked out by this. Any thoughts on what this could be? My doctor said i should see a urologist if the ultra sound doesnt show anything. When I went in August they thought it was Prostatis.

well i know i’m the invisible one on this post…but flank pain should not be ignored…thats where your kidneys make themselves known.
What kind of cytology did he use? Just a regular cytology wont give you a clear picture. Have him do a FISH test….demand a FISH test…i have a feeling he won’t be amenable to it.
Personally i’d get to another uro with more experience.

Well…you are probably just fine then. That would GOOD NEWS!
On the other hand, you should make a list and ask the uro when you go back.Things for the list:
1. What do you think the blood is from that my doctor saw?
2. Do you think my side pain is urological or something else? If something else, any idea who I should see about that?
3. I still have this feeling like I have to pee after I just get done going? Is this anything to be concerned about or do you think it may be because I’m just thinking about it too much?
4. Is there any cause for a cystoscopic exam to see if there is anything you can see that may have caused the blood that my General Practitioner found in my urine sample when he checked it?

really didnt get anywhere. didnt do a cysto
What did he say when you told him you thought you have bladder cancer? Did he do a cysto?
I don’t think side pain has anything to do with bladder.

My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ABLCS or anyone else. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.so i went to the urologist. he said my urine had no infection or blood. felt around everywhere and found nothing. he said the foamy urine was nothing to worry about.
he said to go back in 6 weeks for another urine test.
where do i go from here? i still have side pain and occasional feel i need to urinate more after going. not always there.
the only thing that seems to have lightened my symptons was when my normal doctor told me to cut out caffeine out of my diet. that actually seems to have helped quite a bit so far. its hard for me to believe that could help that much.
any thoughts? the thing about bladder cancer is.. urine tests dont always show the blood cells that are related to bladder cancer… do they?
Sorry George. I didn’t know that it would put the video right in the message. I was just putting the link to it there.
Seems like they could have had a “friendlier” cover image on the video.

New Man! [/size]Urine sample is the same. You pee in a cup. They run different tests on it but it doesn’t change your part.
Cystoscope: All depends. May do then and there or may have to schedule you for it. Typically done in the office to have a look around in your bladder.
See the link for details:

how does the cystoscopice exam work? would i have to come back?
Probably be a bunch of forms to fill out.
Bring a list of all medications and supplements (if you take any)They ask you questions about your symptoms, probably have you give a urine sample, etc…
You may get a cystoscopice exam if the uro feels your symptoms warrant it.

what does a typical visit to a urologist consist of?
GuestNovember 18, 2009 at 8:02 pmSorry not a guy but the clue here to me is the foamy urine..you should be checked for protein in the urine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proteinuria
PatHi, you should definately see a Urologist. I also had a sonogram that did not show anything. It was not until the cysto and Cat scan that was done showed what turned out to be a superficial tumor.
Joey
Blood in the urine is a symptom of bladder cancer but it can also be caused by a number of other things.
The feelings you describe with urination sound more like prostate issues. Many of us men have also had prostate issues that are unrelated to bladder cancer.
The foamy business could be kidney infection, could be urethral issue of some sort, could be alcohol, diet or a host of other things.
The back/side pain could be kidney stones or other things with the kidneys.
The combination you describe does not sound like bladder cancer but in any/all of the scenerios the medical specialty that can sort through the symptoms and do the right tests to figure it out is Urology.
You should probably get a cystoscopic exam so the urologist can see in the bladder to look for problems, tumors, irritation, etc.
All I’m trying to say is that you may not want to assume bladder cancer in your case. You certainly don’t want to ignore it but it is probably something else and a urologist is the person to tell you what exactly it is.
Best of luck!

My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ABLCS or anyone else. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.The first thing to do is take a deep breath and calm down. Mike’s advice to see a urologist is absolutly correct. From the laymans look at this, try NOT to let Web MD diagnose what ails you. This area is still one for the pro.
Two weeks ago, a friend of mine had a sinus infection. he went to the doctor and his wife, (after researching on the web) asked the doctor, “If he has cancer or a brain tumor, I want to know!”
The doctor was very cool, he said, “no cancer, or brain tumor, Oh, and by the way, I have ruled out bubonic plague too.”
Fear and Panic are self destructive. Let the pro’s make a real diagnosis.
