Question Regarding RC and Hiccups
Posted by eddiek on April 2, 2010 at 3:35 pmHello Everyone:
A women in India recently contacted us with a question. Her father had an RC about six days ago. He was allowed to begin a liquid diet about 48 hours ago. Since beginning the liquid diet, he has developed a case of hiccups.
Since the hiccups are causing him great discomfort, does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.

I had forgotten about them also until Rudy has his RC. He asked me if I had bad hiccups after surgery and I said no. When I got back home and mentioned it to my wife she couldn’t believe I didn’t remember what bad hiccups I had for a couple/few days.
The joys of morphine! :)
That’s one reason why it is so important to have new folks join the site because things are more fresh in their minds. As time goes by we forget a lot of stuff about the treatment and surgery. That’s a good thing, but I do find myself going back and reading my own posts from way back and reading my notes that I made for doctors and myself as I was going through things.
Without that, I’d have left quite a lot relegated to forgotten history.

Things you forget about a RC.
I had them really bad for a couple days.
I, like Mike, just waited them out.

http://www.neurology.org/cgi/content/abstract/40/3_Part_1/531Many times they are caused by the diaphragm and breathing in and out getting out of alignment. Lots of swallowing and deep breathing has been known to help some, but waiting it out is ultimately what has to be done.

Not sure what to do about them. I just waited it out and dealt with them.Mike
