  • Perforated Bladder During Biopsy

    Hello everyone.

I am absolutely terrified! The urologist did a cystoscopy and bladder wash a few weeks ago. He said the cystoscopy looked clear but his nurse called me about a week later and said there were cells that were suspicious for high-grade carcinoma and recommended a bladder biopsy.

I had that done today and after I got home, I developed severe abdominal pain and was unable to urinate. I went to the ER and they did a CT which showed a small perforation of the bladder wall at one of the biopsy sites.

Now I am terrified!! If I do have cancer, this perforation just spread the cancer cells that were confined to the surface of my bladder to the rest of my body!! Did I really just go from no tumor, possibly CIS to stage 4?? I am freaking oyt!!!!

This recently happened to me during TURBT as I had a bladder perforation and they found a non-invasive papillary tumor and confirmed CIS. I am worried I will have cancer cells now outside of my bladder where they can grow on other organs of nodes.

So sorry to hear about your problems. While rare, such things do happen. You will NOT spread cancer in this way, however. The perforation will heal.
