Pathology is back
Posted by Cynthia on February 6, 2009 at 9:11 pmI am sorry this has taken so long to get out but I am just now starting to rejoin the land of the living again. The surgery was a little more than I had bargained for once they got in they found that some of my stoma had dead tissue attached to it as well as was being obstructed by scar tissue. So it had to be reconstructed as well as the left kidney and ureter removed. There is some good news attached to all of this however. The pathology came back and there is no new cancer the finding was xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) and diffuse fibrosis. This is a very rare type of infection of the kidney about 1% that could only be cured by removal of the kidney trigged by the ureter being blocked by scar tissue and causing the kidney not to be able to drain correctly. All the scaring may be from the extensive pelvic radiation during my tratetment. The other good news is that quite possibly the correction to my stoma will take care of the sever metabolic problems I have been having and that the chronic pain I have had was caused the kidney condition. We will be traveling back to MA on Sunday and Ed and I will be very happy to be back home. Thank you all for your support and love I don’t know how we would have ever made it this far on our journey without you all.

Such great news. I know that it will be great to get home.
Cynthia,
I am so happy to hear the good news about the path report and hopefully you will be feeling a whole lot better once you have recovered from the operation. It is been so cold here in the foothills of the Berkshires but tomorrow is going to be a balmy 35 degrees and on Sunday we expect to get up into the 40’s so there will be a lot less ice around by the time you get home.
I hope your trip home is safe and uneventful.
Blessings…..JeanSign In to reply.
