Pain following TUBRT and continuing during BCG
A sincere Thank you to Sara Anne and Flamenco who responded to my questions regarding constant pain. To Sara: yes my diagnosis was CIS. I was told that the CIS was the “good news” – the High Grade part was the “not so good news.”
I have 3 more BCG treatments left to complete the 6-week course. What led me to get tested in the first place was pain. Pain with urination and then some “pelvic” pain almost all the time. Went through the suspected uti and prostatis diagnosis – both negative, then off to the urologist who persuaded me to have the scope. He found the tumor immediately. About 4-weeks later I had the first TUBRT, and by that time I was bleeding quite a bit when urinating. Supposedly, this cancer is not painful, and the surgery BCG are just “uncomfortable.” For me, all of it is very painful. My instinct is to work with my primary care doctor on the pain for the next three weeks of BCG and see if I can just get through it. If the pain gets worse, then, Sara, I will certainly have to skip a week or cut the dose as you suggest. Again, thank you for your kind response. My understanding is that CIS is always high grade! And it is sort of like a rash on the bladder surface. No wonder it can be uncomfortable!! I had symptoms of a raging UTI..burning, pain…and when the diagnosis came in my uro told me that CIS explained all the symptoms. It was only after the completion of the first round of 6 BCGs that these symptoms ceased.
