    Hello All,

Thank you all for your replies to my previous post regarding the results of the most recent scans…

We had a consult with Dr. Daniel Fried, a Radiation Oncologist at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. We were given quite a bit of information to digest.

We have decided on an injection of “Quadramet” see:

    http://www.cytogen.com/professional/quadramet/pi.php

It is used for pain management in those suffering from Bone Mets. For the areas that don’t respond to this drug, the option for external beam radiation is still available. With this drug the blood must be monitored closely, so we will have a visiting nurse coming weekly to assess and draw blood.

Hopefully the response will be good to this drug, because then we will have the option of using “Zometa” see:

    http://www.us.zometa.com/info/therapy/how_it_works.jsp?irmasrc=ZOMWB0084

this is a drug that promotes healthly bone growth…Neither stop the cancer, but with pain management, and stronger bones…quality of life should be greatly improved. These drugs are not without side effects, and that part does worry me…but we can only trust, and take one day at a time…

    Keep us in your Prayers!

    Karen

    Hi Pat…

He will be hospitalized for 24 hrs to be monitored. I don’t know if this is typical, but his Dr. recommended it, and said that it would save me from having to worry about the little ones using his bathroom…

They said that the benefits far out way the possible risks…I really trust this team of Drs. Dr. Torti, and Dr. Fried are awesome!!!

    Thanks,
    Karen

Wow Karen…reading those studies with the drug are kind of alarming…but then most drugs if you read the literature you would probably not take. I’m just wondering the precautions you must take for at least the first l2 hours with the radiation excretion from your husbands body..are you able to have a dedicated bathroom just for him that the children won’t be around?
