Had my urology check up today. He found several small reddish “spots” that may, or may not, be due to the BCG treatments. Asked if I thought that I could handle a small biopsy and cauterization without the anesthesia. I said OK. He did it. The biopsy part was not bad; the cauterization was not good. Anyway, I will get the results either Friday or Monday.

Meanwhile I am VERY uncomfortable. On strong antibiotics and meds for bladderspasms. Didn’t need this.

    Will feel better later.

    Sara Anne–

Congratulations on the good news. You have every reason to be happy with your uro! Hope things will clear up so you can continue BCG treatment, hopefully with a reduced dose to avoid a repeat of the cystitis. As I recall, you and I are on close to the same BCG schedule, so I follow your posts closely. (My next check-up is in early October, followed several weeks later by 3 weeks maintenance BCG.)

That is great news. I have to agree that you must have a special doctor to make calls on Sunday. As we all have experienced, the wait for the pathology is worse than the procedure itself. I am in the waiting mode myself. I will know the results of my TURBT on Wednesday. Hang in there with the continued BCG treatments.

So happy everything came out so well – now I can un-cross my fingers:laugh:
I have had the problem of BCG Cystitis and effects for over three months:( It can take a long time to clear, mine is finally getting better and almost back to normal. I know everyone can get different levels of Cystitis, just make sure your bladder is ALL CLEAR before the next round.

Just had a call from Dr. Janoff….on Sunday. In the office clearing out paper work. Had the biopsy report…clear!!! It said irritative cystis…he says it is from the BCG. Hopes it heals in time to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN in six weeks. As you know, I was quite worried. The urine cytology was clear also.

Whew. Relief. Thanks for being there for me.

Absolutely I would rather have my biopsy and cauterization in the office instead of an entire day of outpatient surgery. The discomfort is over with quickly; I HATE general anesthesia, I throw up for 36 hours afterwards! I’m still waiting on my biopsy results from just such a scenario last Thursday. Third recurrence in 4 years…. now I get to go through BCG after I heal. Oh joy.

No, I would never change uros. Mine is superb. We discussed the whole thing before we did it. IF there is any chance from the biopsies he took yesterday (and it was not a truly bad experience, as my previous post described) he will immediately do a TURB under anesthesia to check on all the factors that need checking. He feels 90% that it is NOT a reacurrence, but wants to be sure. Didn’t want to put me under unless we need to. I have every confidence that he is on top of the situation.

My only “middle of the night” concern is that it MIGHT be CIS again. Can’t help it. He said that IF it is, the next treatment will be another 6 weeks of BCG and start the clock again. If I don’t tolerate more BCG it would be reduced dose + interferon.

    Can’t help being nervous.

I too have had the biopsy procedure done in my FORMER Uro. The first time he told me that he was going to do it. The second time he was doing it before I was aware of what he was doing. This and several other things (cleanliness of the office, attitude of staff and doctor, etc.) made it easy to make the decision to switch Uro’s . I’m not sure, but I don’t think my new Uro would do a biopsy in his office. I just had a TURBT on Tuesday. Other than the effects of the anesthesia and the normal invasive side effects it went well. Sara Anne, have you thought about changing Uro’s. I have to agree with the group that doing biopsies in the office invites problems we don’t need. Hang in there.
