I had a PET Scan Today and I think looks ok.
When is the time to consider surgery and neo bladder?
Thanks,
Roger. -
George,
I really feel that you have gone a long way and the thought it could be me in 8 years give me hope. The choice you took would be my best choice, I mean Neo Bladder. I have also read that it is a very difficult and long operation. There is also the need for Catheter later in the early days.
However, I would like to know:
Which hospital did you choose?
Who was your doctor?
Was it Robotic with Da Vinci?
Did you look at other options?
Was the Doctor in favor of the Robotic?
Do you need still to use the catheter?
Did you have to go with Chemotherapy?
If so how many cycle?
Could you do Robotic and no chemotherapy?
How do you feel about the Pouch? The answers to these questions would help me to understand what may be coming for me?
I keep in mind that the Scans of next week will gave me more information.
Thanks in advance,
Roger. -
I will answer any questions you may have. As long as you realize that I am not a Dr.
I am only a guy that had bladder cancer and got a neo and have been cancer free for 8 years. But one thing I do know….. cancer is a scary thing and when I looked for information in 2008, I found it here. The people here know what it is like to feel helpless and confused. We just try to help them focus on the task at hand and help them get better.
So ask away. I may even give you a serious answer. But it will be hidden in humor.
George

New Man! [/size]George,
If you do not mind I would like to put together few questions to better understand the Neo Bladder as it would be my best option. Even though it is now too early to decide.
Still new to this ………….
I still work full time until I know the results and the options.
Thanks,
RogerThanks for the information. It is too early as I have not done the SCAN, but my choice with be the Neo Bladder. I think this operation has been done a lot and if done properly should be great.
We will see,
RogerRoger,
here is a bookmark that discusses the 3 main diversions: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments_and_procedures/hic_Urinary_Reconstruction_and_Diversion
DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.Roger
I am a neo man myself.
It has been 8 years since I had nerve sparing Neo installation.
The Bladder removal surgery is a rather big surgery. The neo bladder is an operation that MUST be performed by a surgeon that has done Many Many Many of these.
It is a lengthy procedure that requires skill and attention to infection.I am one of the people that has had a positive outcome. Although I also have had some side effects that require attention. The most notable is incontinence. At first it was all the time, but I learned how to manage it during the day. But even now, 8 years out, I still have night time issues.
But I feel this is a small price to pay.
I still do everything I did before (ski and drive my racecar)
But with every procedure there are annoyences and imperfections. Your Dr will give you the issues with each. What is right for me, may not be for you.
Best of luck and feel free to ask anything here. And you can vent here if you want too
George

RogerRoger,
There are a bunch of people on here who have neobladders and other urinary diversions and frequently there are discussions about the options, and adjusting to the changes.
At this point I am still trying to keep my bladder, hoping that we can get the CIS to stop reoccurring soon after BCG temporarily banishes it. I have looked ahead, hoping to not go there, but would select neobladder as my choice, if it was among the possible options.
You are in a good place to meet others who have gone down that road.
Best

Mine is invasive.

I did have the TURBT where they did a biopsy and the pathology did say cancer and the scan will tell us more.
Did you think about Cystoscopy with neo bladder as I an thinking about that
RogerRoger,
Are they trying to confirm bladder cancer, or is it a search for possible extension ?
Waiting for results can be nerve-racking. Hang in there. You are with a group that has been there.
