  • Need help with Mitromycin shortage!

Posted by Cynthia on May 3, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I received this from a daughter who’s mother has failed BCG and her doctor wishes to use mytomycin but can not obtain it. Also if you lived in Florida who would you wish to see for a second opinion?

    Title: Mytomycin

Message: My mother has bladder cancer and her physician in California wants her to have Mytomycin but states it has been impossible to find for his other patients. Please let me know how to find this drug.

I was able to send on more information to this lady. It seems that it is such a problem that it was discussed at the AUA conference last week. Dr.O’Donnel of U of I stated that adriamacycin was being used instead. It seems that one of the makers Spectrum has been sold but that other company’s will begin shipping back orders early this month.

I was able to track down the following manufacturers of Mitromycin.

Spectrum Chemical and Medisca and have emailed them for more information on availability. I have also contacted two of our doctors on our medical advisory board.

This website by the US Gov. shows a shortage due to manufacturing delays. But there should be some shipped in early May.

At the AUA they mentioned the shortage and said they are using adriamycin instead.
