  • need advice – pathologist needs second opinion

    Hi!
I’m new to the forum and not really sure what my diagnoses is yet. Everything happened fairly quickly over the past couple of weeks and i was hoping for some information.

Just a little about me….34 years old mother of 2. a beautiful little girl who is 1 and a handsome little boy who is 5.

I have had microscopic blood in my urine and have been seeing a urologist for numerous years now. At my recent normal appointment i had the scope done and was told i had a tumor. A week later tumor was removed and now i’m waiting for the report. I called today to see if the had the report and the nurse said it wasn’t in yet that she would call. She calls back and tells me that the pathologist needs a second opinion and sent the slides(i’m assuming) to john Hopkins. Has anyone one ever have this happen? So now i don’t know what to expect and have to wait longer to find out what’s going on.
Any advice or information would be great. Thank you!

Sara, I have to agree – the waiting was the hardest part for me too. Try to keep your mind busy – maybe watch a bunch of movies with the kids, go to the park, etc. There’s nothing you can do until the pathology report is available, and worrying is not productive.

    Take care,

    Thanks LillianG!
The waiting is the worst! I just wish they could have told me a little more.

Sara, I’m sorry that you are here with us, but I’m glad that you found this forum. After my local pathologist provided her pathology report, I had my doctor send my slides to Johns Hopkins for a second opinion.

It’s always good to have a second opinion to help ensure that the tumor is staged and graded correctly. Hopefully, Johns Hopkins diagnosis will agree with the local pathology report and then your doctor can give you a treatment plan. The treatment plan will depend on the grade and stage of the tumor, so it’s very wise to make sure that the diagnosis is correct.

Keep us posted and feel free to ask questions. There’s a lot of first-hand knowledge available at this site.

Take care of you and try to relax a little. I know from experience that it’s much easier said than done :)
