I would like to thank Alan for sending me the info on this clinical trial. I do not qualify unfortunately, not being diagnosed with CIS. I would have liked to have been in a clinical trial and the U of Chicago is top drawer. However, for those who cannot tolerate BCG (and there are really not too many of us) this is new research that may mean help for those suffering from mucosal cancers.
What are the stats on low grade papilary tumors progressing to CIS or muscle invasion? I do not want to dwell on this too much, just interested.
Also I have never suffered bleeding or infection from turb. Is this a matter of urologist skill or luck?
    thanks,
    Orpheus

Just sorry you weren’t able to be included. I have just read the trial is now closed so we should know something in about a year!

Ta, low grade papillary tumors progress in grade or become invasive less than 5% of the time, and are high in grade in only 1% to 3% of cases. In contrast, stage T1 tumors may be high grade in 30% to 50% of cases and are rarely low grade.1 Carcinoma in situ is considered a high risk form of bladder cancer with a widely variable outcome. Although all three kinds of tumors are considered non-invasive (formerly referred to as “superficial”), their outcomes are clearly different.

I copied the above from blcwebcafe.org.

My last TURB had nearly no bleeding at all. The tumor was small. My 1st Turbt I had 3 tumors, and I was bleeding for 2 days.
