Hi, my husband is newly diagnosed and having awful side effects after his turbt on June 28. He has been unable to start his bcg because of his terrible symptoms of frequency, urgency, and pain and burning. I made an appointment for a second opinion at Karmanos cancer center in Detroit but am looking for advice on the best dr.s in the area for bladder cancer. I have received advice on University of Michigan and am looking for any opinions on Karmanos for Bladder cancer or any suggestions of other Dr’s.

May I congratulate you and your husband on seeking a second opinion!! This is so important..The best you can find out is that your current urologist is right on track. The next best is that if he/she isn’t, what you can do instead!

Both places you mention, Kamnanos (Wayne State Univ.) and U. of Michigan are excellent choices, and I think it would depend on which is more convenient for you, geographically.

You want to be SURE that the doctor you consult is one of those who specializes in BLADDER CANCER. Many urologists spend 90% of their time on prostates.

    Good luck to you.
