When she says a dark color…are we talking a brownish color or just a more concentrated yellow color?….If its tea or brownish its a good bet its an infection. Unless she’s eaten a lot of beets!
As for odor.. Sometimes it is just something you have eaten, garlic and asparagus are prime suspects, but if you haven’t been eating anything like that an infection is the most likely. Also, certain medications can cause the urine to have an odor as they pass through your system. Vitamins, especially in large doses are notorious for causing these symptoms.
But knowing that your mom overhydrated before and ended up in the hospital with low blood sodium…if she’s going to drink make it gatoraid or something that will not upset her electrolytes.

    Hi Julieann,

Tell your mother that it may not even be cancer related…every symptom should be treated separately…It may be as simple as dehydration…Does she have a primary care physician? She doesn’t have to go to an oncologist for everything…she can see her regular Dr. for bloodwork, urinalisis, blood pressure checks etc…They can send whatever they think important on to the oncologist for the 16th…This is not treatment…this is preventing something simple from becoming something major…Explain to her that this is making you worry, and that you need for her to go get it checked FOR YOU to put you at ease…Tell her that you understand that she doesn’t want treatment, but it would be wrong to get really sick when all she needed were some antibiotics or to drink some more water…

    Thinking of you,

    Karen

Julieann this should not be ignored. You can buy and OTC UTI testing kit, it may help mama to realize she has a problem and get docs appointment for anti biotics.
