    Hi All,
My uro had a new machine for my last cysto but didn·t ask what it was, he just said it was more accurate then the old one. I had quite a bit of pain afterwards, and bladder spasms but only for a few hours .

OOPs!!..sorry..i guess i worded that incorrectly. What i meant was…there is a devise that they use routinely in Europe called the Hexvix light which has been very effective in seeing tumors not seen by white light cystoscopy which is what all uros here in the US have been using. One of the shortcomings is that a dye has to be injected into the system one hour before the scope and doctors here for some reason were not embracing it.
Now Narrow BAnd Imaging has come along which does not require any dyes as it has its own optical filters to enhance the mucosal surface…the uros like that.
Does that help any? Sorry for the confusion…….Now since Memorial Sloan has embraced it i can’t help but think so will others. I would certainly advocate for it….Hey we can be heard!! Right…..? Pat

    Hi Suzi
At our new hospital, they have a complete urogolgy and pathogy department, which is fantastic. The 4 Urogolist in the area have all moved to this hospital along with specialist nurses.
I am not sure if the new equipment is NBI, but I will ask next Friday while at my BCG treatment. I am pretty sure it is, since my Uro brags about it so much.(lol).
I do not think I have had dye injected prior to my previous cyso’s either, again I will ask the head nurse next Friday.
I would think your Uro is aware of the NBI equipment, as I am sure the company that manufacturers the NBI, would want to sell him one for his clinic.
    Isn’t this site great!

    Pat,
I never used injection or dye before Cysto , I had got dye injection when I had x-ray for all my urine system 2 years ago.it is first time I heard their is need to injection before cysto. do you mean same cysto we have it every 3 month?

This has been around for about a year and i’m sure more major cancer centers and larger institutions will be using it as it does not require the use of dyes as the Hexvix light does and requires the injection about an hour before a cystoscopy. With Narrow Band Imaging..no dyes…as it has modified optical filters to enhance mucosal surfaces.
By the way Drs. Herr and Donat are at Memorial Sloan in NYC. If any of you remember Yosarian on the forum he is one who had the benefit of NBI.

    Hi, Suzi

My Urogolist got new equipment last summer at a new hospial in Brampton.
He explained to me that he will be able to see very small tumors much better.
I assume this is the equipment you are referring to.
He will no longer do my Cysos at the old hospital, because of this new cyso equipment at the new hospial. I have not seen the results on the screen, as I close my eyes when he does the cyso. I am such a nervous wreck in that room. The only time I open them is when he says there is a tumor, which has been 13 months now. So my wish, is that I dont want to see his new light on the screen. lol
    Best Regards,
    Jack
