instant chat takes priority
Posted by Leigh on September 21, 2009 at 7:26 pmI was recently replying to a post and the instant chat was active with users.
Every time someone posted a new message on the chat I heard a pop sound. It was also impossible to type while the chat was in process.
Anyone else had this problem….

To give credit where credit is due Leigh was the first one to figure out the fix :woohoo: I just talk a lot so I helped spread the word. :P

InTransition,
I can’t claim cleverness, EXCEPT I was clever enough to follow the instructions that Webs gave me in the chat window! :)

I am not as clever as MMC and Leigh and never made the connection between the chatting and the tough time posting with the sound icon on. Was very frustrated. Posting id so easy now. Thanks!

Thanks Derek!!! You da man!

All you do is scroll up in the instant chat window until you see the little speaker icon. Click on the icon and it will mute it.
That will stop your PC from jumping out of text mode and seeming like it is hung when you are typing in forum or chat.
Don’t know why it does it but it does. Easy enough to fix.

The instant chat will take priority there is a built in two second delay for security to prevent spammers or bots.We will probably disable the sound as I see no point in it really until then we will listen for your feedback and make a decision. When the instant chat is on the same page as the forum it can be very slow. Muting seems to rectify it but not everyone will realize that so we may turn it of f by default in the end.
OK its gone unless a lot of people ask for it I am leaving it off
Did you just mute it on your PC? I have a problem where the curser disappears while I am typing (this message) and people are posting instant chat.
I have to reposition and click the the mouse to get the curser back in this text box before I start typing again.
It is REALLY a major pain when people get to chatting away.
It happened to me 6 times in the course of typing this one message! (make that 8 time).

Wonderful how we have the option to turn off the sound…..I never noticed it before.
