I’m back
Hi everyone. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here, and a lot has happened. I’ve been away because of many demands on my time, mostly good. Here’s the cake I baked for my 60th birthday party – shared with my twin and my 30 year old daughter, and my brother’s 1 year old granddaughter.
Well, I’m still cancer-free (as far as I know) but a few weeks before my party I started to have my usual urinary symptoms and I wondered if it was my urethral stricture becoming inflamed. I had a little pain in my side on the way to the party, but a few Advil and lots of wine took care of that. Wouldn’t you know I was up half the night after the party with a kidney stone… and I had to get up at 5 AM for an airport run with my son. Well, the stone symptoms lasted about 2 weeks, and the CT scan only showed some hydronephrosis and dilation of the ureter. No more stones. And now I feel fine. B) The next event which is taking my time is my baby’s engagement party, but the cookies are already baked and I just have to make the cake and the sugar-free cake, so I’m not so pressed for time. Finally, there’s always some grief as well, isn’t there? My father-in-law, whose affairs I have been managing since my mother-in-law died, has become progresively more demented and weakened and can no longer be cared for at home. He appears to have cancer as well, but overall, that’s not his major issue. He’ll be going into a nursing home/hospice, and his son has taken over his finances. And I will try to visit and keep him in my thoughts without letting it overwhelm me. I see I have a whole new format to get used to. It’ll take me a while.
