ileal conduit
Cystectomy and ileal conduit have been recommended to me by docs at Johns Hopkins due to recurrent (5x in 8 yrs.) superficial TCC with failure of BCG, MMC and interferon. Anyone out there who did this for noninvasive bladder cancer. What is life like with the ileal conduit?

The doctor may be talking to you about the ileal because of your age and health issues. Sometimes, the ileal is all the doctors can offer the patient once they get inside and see the layout of the land, so to speak.
Both Pat and I have the Indy Pouch and very much appreciate our diversions but you will find others who believe the ileal and the neo are better choices. What you get depends on several factors….as Pat said, your age, your health and then there is your attitude, what best fits you as an individual….what you are looking for in the way of a good quality of life.

Melodie, Indy Pouch, U.W.Medical Center, Seattle, Dr. Paul H. Lange & Jonathan L. WrightWell..yeah…the neo doesn’t work as well in women…and yeah..the ileal conduit is the least invasive surgery…and ..oh yeah…the Indiana Pouch is the hardest to do. I think a lot depends on your age and general health to pick the right fit for yourself.

and if you’re female please don’t forget the Indiana Pouch as it works a lot better in a female than a neobladder.
If your cancer has continually come back as high grade non invasive they will hope you consider a radical cystectomy…the top cancer/uro centers know where its going to go eventually. You’re just hedging your bets.

Why would they not recommend a Neo? I understand the cystectomy but not the rest. I think that is the first question to ask.
