After weeks of research and consultation, planning, choosing, and preparing for chemo, yesterday, at the very edge of the pod room, I had to turn around and come home.

The irritation I had developed over the weekend turned out to be shingles (herpes zoster), a viral condition. No chemo for me until it clears up.

I am taking Valtrex, which is supposed to shorten the duration.

Has anyone else run into this?

When it rains it pours, the reason the old sayings stay around is they remain true. When I hear the word shingles I thin of pain as I have always been told it is painful. Here is some great information about Shingles for the American Academy Dermatology it states that anything that can lower our amune resonce can bring on Shingles if you have the dorment chickenpox virus in your system. These inclue cancer and chemotheropy so I guess you qualifyed on both. I hope this passes quickly and you are back to chemo soon.
