  • How long is recovery from diathermy?

Posted by Vee on June 19, 2014 at 11:16 pm

Hi all, I have been suffering from chronic bladder pain and urgency to urinate for almost 5 months now. The doctors were unable to work out what was wrong with me as all my tests were clear and I had no infection. 3 weeks ago I had a cytoscopy and they found two inflammatory polyps in my bladder which they then treated with diathermy. I had three days of terrible pain then after that all my previous symptoms resumed and they are still occurring. My specialist has not been very helpful and I cannot seem to get any answers about the actual recovery time from diathermy to the bladder. Has anyone else had a longer then expected recovery time? Can my symptoms just be because of inflammation that has still not gone away? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thank you,

Hi Sara Anne, thank your reply. I am incredible lucky that the polyps were benign but I am not sure how they diagnosed that, I presume they did biopsies. I was treated here in Australia but I thought that diathermy was a regular practice, it’s just quarterization the region of the polyp? It’s just so frustrating having no idea if I am still in pain because of this procedure or because I have something else wrong.

    Thank you again.

Vee, are you receiving treatment in the US? Diathermy is not usually used here, so I don’t think many of us will have had experience with it.

Were the “polyps” biopsied so that you know what the exact diagnosis is?
