    Help with chemo anemia

    Hi to all
    It has been awhile since I posted as I have been helping my husband get through chemo. He did so on last Thursday. Hooray. Now we are trying to get him strong and back to his old self. He was fortunate with his experience and he is a real trooper. However, he has some residual anemia. He has had 2 Areanest (not sure of spelling) shots and does’t return to Norris until he has his scans in 3 weeks. I would like to try some home remedies. If anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate it.

    Thanks Debby for the info. I am going to buy some iron supplements. I just bought some spinach and plan beef for dinner. Like you said, finding tasty food they want is a challenge. His count was 10.2 last week. I also will start pushing the exercise.

    Hi Ann, Here’s my limited knowledge of anemia. My husbans is on his 5th cycle of chemo ( lymph node involvement) He recieves Aranesp injections every other week. These can be given every other week , every third week or every week. IT is important to know his hemoglobin count it should be above 10 below this our oncologist does transfusions. You can keep track of these and symptoms on http://www.Caring4Cancer.com. Heres the tips on sympton improvement.
    Iron Supplements
    eat small meals of red meat and leafy veg every 2 to 4 hours
    10 to 30 min a day of exercise
    short naps

    This all sounds easy huh well its not went they say their so tired they can’t wake up. In our case no transfusions. The cells start to reproduce quicker after chemo has stopped ( oncologist statement) Hope your husband is feeling better and I wish him the best of luck. My husband tells everyone ” Cancers like Christmas your never sure what you’ll get in the next box.”
