  • Help – nausea with cisplatin

Posted by Jack R on December 14, 2017 at 11:45 pm

Round one of chemo for kidney cancer completed (maintenance BCG for bladder continuing).

Looking for over the counter suggestions for nausea with Cisplaten before round 2 begins. The side effects of the clinic’s standard nausea cocktail were ineffective for me. I have been given LONG list of OTC meds to “try”. Hoping to hear of some that have worked well for others. I’d rather not buy a package of every nausea drug on the shelf and start from scratch. What has worked for you ?

Thanks in advance. Hope your journey is on track.

    Best Jack

    Hi Jack,

Nausea is a witch isn’t it? I have had quite a bit of chemo myself Cispatin being one of them. Number one is that I found that starting any nausea meds HAD to be taken prior to the nausea starting. I would premeditate and that helped a lot. But if I waited until symptoms started it did not help. Another thing to remember is not to let your stomach get empty. I always kept packets of saltines with me just in case, for some reason a empty stomach is asking for trouble. Another thing that helps and I know this upsets some people is medical cannabis. If you are some place it is legal and you don’t have a problem with it it can be a heaven sent for some people it was for me. You do not have to smoke it as it may be available as a tenure or edible at the dispensary. I was very unsure of it but it was a miracle for me.

I hope this helps, maybe someone else will chime in with other suggestions.
