The 1st post-TURB cysto was visually clear of tumors :) . My Uro did take a cytology (sp?) as a precaution only, with results back in about 5-days.

The pain I have been having for 3-weeks and getting worse by the day, turns out to be a world-class “prostate-infection”. I asked if it could have come from my 1st 6-BCG’s, and the answer was, “very well could be”!

I am on Cipro, 2/day, for 28-days. Am told this could be a challenge to clear up. Nausea is horrible, and I feel like I am sittiing on a “railroad-spike” inserted w/force, head first. I also have BPH, but this is my 1st prostate infection and I am miserable.

    I am scheduled for BCG’s again in 5-weeks :S

PTL though that there are no visible tumors, at 3-months post TURB :) :P :) .

OH! Is am bleding a bit after this cysto, is that to be expected?

Thanks FAMILY for the Prayers, they worked, again!

I was told two tests are required, an ultrasound and an escphogram- where I read that I swallow barium and the radiologist sees any problems in the path to the stomach.

Did you mean endoscopy maybe ? Is pain actually in the stomach or abdominal area?

My primary care doctor is ordering an abdominal ultrasound and Escopagram to see what is going on but the Urologist says it is not related to the BCG therapy. Now I have a gurgling stomach after 4 days of stomach ache. It could be nerves too. The pain is real, maybe I am crazy.

here’s a list of potential side effects…i would certainly let your doctor know about the abdominal pain before another instillation.

    Bill,

Patricia gave you good advice about potential TB even though I opine and trust that it probably isn’t. I had a UTI after my 7th BCG instillation (my Uro did 6 on , 6 off then 6 on to finish his protocol). Then my 12th month cysto (on 3 month checks) I had another UTI with antibiotics for 14 days. Just finished my 15th month today and he gave me 3 days of Cipro as a pre-caution. Good news for me-no cancer. Have to wait for the cytology but, he says I look good! Suspicion that the prostate or the tip of my uretha harbor some bacteria that got stirred up. Hopefully this will be the last time for you and me that nuisance.

Whew! That is the best news! Hopefully, this infection, can be cleared up quickly, and you can have a celebration before the next BCG.
Take a deep breath and sleep well tonight:P

Thanks Pat for the heads up. I did have a “slice biopsy” of the prostate during my TURB. This horrible pain started 2-weeks after the 1st 6-BCGs. The Uro even said, the prostate infection could have come from the BCG.

I have e-mailed him, relative to your post! Thanks a million. Todays cysto has really added to the pain :S

Make sure you have a correct diagosis by a great pathologist on this…….
The finding of an epididymal inflammation or mass in any man who has previously undergone BCG instillation therapy (and especially if he had undergone prostatic resection before those instillations) should trigger suspicion for the possibility of a BCG tuberculous cause. A heightened index of suspicion, which leads to timely diagnosis and prompt initiation of appropriate antituberculous therapy, is of key importance.
You may need a infectious disease specialist.

    Bill,

So very sorry to hear about this latest infection :( . It sounds absolutely awful…I’m sure some of the guys will tune in and comment on similiar experience. Not that makes it any less painful for you but least ways you don’t have to feel like you are the odd man out.

I would suggest you ask your doctor for some Lorazapam for the nausea…when I was doing chemo, what they gave me wasn’t working and Pat suggested Lorazapam. Tiny little tablet that you would just tuck into the mouth, inside the cheek area, and just let it disolve. It will make you somewhat sleepy (I think) it always did for me. My chemo doctor prescribed it for me and it worked like a charm; later on my urologist balked at writing me a prescription as he felt it was too addicting…:side: I never had that experience while taking it. Hope you improve now that you are on the cipro. Get well soon. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Melodie
