Most of you us are going to get flowers while we’re in the hospital.

Most guys, present company included, appreciate them, but really don’t give them much of a second thought. They sit on a table, eventually wilt, and are thrown in the trash.

    May I make a suggestion?

I was very saddened while I was at Norris by how many older people were there who had no friends, no family, and no visitors. I can’t imagine the loneliness and helplessness these people must feel.

I asked the nurse if she would take my flowers and give them to an elderly woman down the hall who hadn’t had any visitors or calls the entire week. The nurse told me that the woman actually cried when she got them–that’s how much that little gesture meant to her.

Someone once said that God gave us memories so we could have roses in December. I think the memory of that one lady’s moment of happiness meant more to me than all the roses I’ve ever received.

Great idea. I was absolutely amazed when I was in the hospital at how many elderly people were there after major surgery with not so much as one hospital visit.

Such thoughtfulness! I certainly will remember this when my husband does the hospital thing down the road.

    Hi Zach

At times we can become so emotionally involved and preoccupied with our own circumstances that we forget there is always someone worse off than us and we who have family and friends take it for granted during the times we are in hospital that support will be there for us!
I will remember your words when I am in hospital.
