    Hi All.

I have been reading for about a week now.  I hope you all are fighting your situations well and trying to smile when given the opportunity!!

My husband, 51 yo, had what is ‘transient hematuria’ 10 days ago, blood in his urine, kind of clotlike and a little stinging over a two hour time. We decided to go to ER, as it was Sunday night.  No UTI, no stones, thought prostate was ok, urine came back normal. Scheduled to see Urologist that Thursday.

Urologist wants CT and cytoscope and says 1 in 5 chance it’s cancer, 4 in 5 it’s something else.  They ran blood/urine tests; just came back today – all normal.  CT is scheduled later this week and scope next Wednesday.   (He has been just fine since that 2 hour episode)…

I’m wondering a couple of things.
    1) What were you first symptoms (he’s had no pain, other than the 2 hour stinging when the blood was coming out)?
    2) Could this be from lifting something heavy about 2 hours prior? (Doctor thought probably not??)
    3) Will we get results from CT or Cytoscope immediately following?

He is a non-smoker.   Hey, thank you for reading his story and taking time to share your stories!

    Ninibean,

I can imagine how you are feeling, but there is nothing anyone can say until your mother gets another cystoscopy, and hopefully urinary cytology and even an IVP as well. I have a feeling she could have complained more to the doctor this past year…and should have.

Yes, it could be something other than bladder cancer or urethral cancer. Only a good lower and upper tract work up will be able to diagnose or rule out cancer. These should definitely be done now.

Please keep us posted how it goes.

My mother just told me today that she has experienced intermittent blood spotting and burning pain from her urethra for more than a year. She also has some incontinence during walking and lower back pain. She had a blood test and the “inside of her bladder scraped” about a year ago and the doctors found no signs of cancer, telling her to come back in a year. I was shocked that a doc would send someone with these symptoms away for a year.

Well, the year has gone by and she is going back to the same doctor. I’m so sad that she didn’t tell me about this a year ago as I would have urged her to seek a second opinion. Can a year of urethral pain, bleeding, and incontinence come from anything but cancer?

I am so glad to hear that you finally went through with it! :) I’ve been wondering about you!

Do you have an appointment for a return visit with the Doc?

After 2 weeks, one would hope that no news is good news, however, I think you should give the Doctor’s office a call to verify the return appointment.

I am with Skypilot that you should get a copy of the CAT scan, but I am not sure what the protocol is….it may be the Doc has to see you first. Once again, a phone call to the Doctor’s office wouldn’t hurt, just to touch base on matters.

I’m proud of you, Hootie. :exclamation [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hootie for heaven’s sake, NOTHING and EVERYTHING causes cancer :o

People who never smoke get lung cancer, while people who smoke 3 packs a day live to be 100.

If you’ve read all the scary stuff you say you have, then you’ve read that too, right?

Can I tell you something quite honestly? I have to tell people to stop feeling sorry for me, or getting upset, if they hear I have bladder cancer. There are so many other things that could be worse than the type of cancer I have, and I tell them that. I tell them that if they want to say a prayer for me, I will be forever grateful. But their worrying is unnecessary…

so STOP WORRYING. Life happens, and every day is a surprise – and the people on this forum are here to support you IF you get an awful surprise like a diagnosis of Bladder Cancer. But you don’t have it yet, do you? so PLEASE go find out if you do, and then come back to us and give us the good or scary news…then, these people have so much knowledge and advice and coping mechanisms and jokes that you will be forever grateful you found them.

    OK? :D

It’s on the 18th. Does a stone causing pain in your bladder for months lead to bc?

    Hootie,

When is your CAT scan scheduled?

You are definitely going to drive yourself crazy.   :P

You are brooding over something that you and no one else has any control over.

It is time to take this horse by the reins and move it forward.

You might even think about asking for an anti-depressant to keep your thoughts from running away with you.  You are having panic attacks out of your fear of cancer.

    Please have a good day!

I mean this in a most caring way.  Get a CAT scan!

I’ve read over and over again that chronic irritation from stones in your bladder can cause squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder.. The pain in my bladder has been going on for 4 months.. is that long enough to cause cancer? How are you supposed to know how long it takes? I didn’t know this.. I’m freaking out again.

it’s funny how urinating used to be such a relief, now I dread the thought of it.. the pain that goes along with it.
