I am a 58 year old female that after 3 TURBS am finally starting my first BCG today. I am also new to this site and am very happy that I found it. Have spent a couple of hours reading various articles that I have found very helpful. I was diagnosed 17 months ago with my first tumor and was suppose to start BCG last January only to find that upon arriving in the office my dr decided that the report didn’t warrant it at that time. Was clear for the past 9 months but had the last TURB with chemo 2 wks ago. All went well and am hopeful that I can say that after 6 BCG treatments. Have not had a second opinion, but feel I need to do that. I am from upstate NY and was considering the Cleveland Clinic, but am reconsidering Sloane Kettering. Will update after my treatment today. Wishing you all the best with whatever stage of cancer you are currently dealing with.

Hi, Mary – welcome to the club! I think it’s good your urologist is getting aggressive. BCG is usually quite effective in suppressing our evil affliction – there’s lots of literature accessible on the internet attesting to that – in fact, my urologist (37 yrs experience) calls it the “gold standard” for treatment of Ta stage carcinoma until something better comes along. I did get a 2nd opinion, and the head of urological oncology at a large, highly-rated hospital agreed totally with my uro’s treatment regimen.

I’m just past the middle of my first treatment series (had 4th BCG treatment two days ago). Everyone seems to respond a little differently. I’m reporting on my treatments so all here can see how one patient responds (under thread “Newbie – just checkin’ in…”). I’m determined to conquer this beast – and my uro (he’s from India) says attitude is extremely important in treatment – so keep the faith!

    Cheers – Maryland Mike

Thanks for sharing your news, although a come-back after 9 months. And welcome. This site is great, and I am a newbie too. Just finished the BCG, but we won’t go back and look until Jan. Good luck.
