  • First BCG effects-BCG now Cancelled-Shortage….

Posted by Jay on January 16, 2015 at 2:03 pm

I had my first BGC treatment on Jan. 5th and it’s a guess when I’ll have my next one with the BGC shortage? Since having all future BCG’s cancelled until further notice, I’ve noticed a slight “easier feeling” as each day goes by. Still the same frequency, almost hourly, less burning, any thoughts on whether there is still some good being done in my bladder with the first BCG treatment? Thanks, Jay

Thanks Sara: Even though I’m not looking forward to the startup of the BCG again, it’s nice to experience and know that after a few weeks “bladder operations” return to somewhat normal! Jay

Interesting, didn’t know you could request Mytomycin since that was what I got after the tumor removal. I wonder why they don’t just make that the norm when the BCG is not available. I have several appointments later this week, will see what happens. Thanks, Jay

I have had 2 BCG treatments canceled, so for my third I chose Mitomycin , which is a chemo(same process). It can be a little more harsh and a tiny bit less effective but better than nothing. Bladder cancer has a very high recurring rate, that’s why maintenance has become a norm. The rotten little cells are always under the surface. Don’t want to scare anyone but I would not let it go for too long!

Jay, as you have read in many posts here, it is not unusual to have to postpone BCG for all kinds of reasons…side effects, irritation, UTI’a. And it does not reduce the effectiveness. This is probably a blessing in disguise, since you have a little more time to recover.

Should have been having my 3rd instillation tomorrow, the 19th, but no word when anything will start up again. I can tell the effects are wearing off, don’t look forward to them again, but still concerned about not have the treatment! Jay
