    :)Hello,
My name is Rosemary…I am 53 years old and newly diagnosed with bladder cancer.  The Dr said the tumor was very large, but low grade..low scale..he says “it will come back”…though before the surgery, he said “70% chance of it coming back”
I am very low risk for this cancer.  The Dr said that the only reason that I have it (Do not smoke, never worked with chemicals, am vegetarian)…is because “sometimes nice people get it”….he has said this twice…
That being said…I would just like to talk a little, and maybe make a record of my strategy…Of course… first, prayer is a must and absolute… A naturopath told me that I should take Essiac tea…without knowing anything about Essiac, the week after my surgery, I had a dream in which the word…”BURDOCK” kept appearing….I later learned that burdock is the main ingredient in Essiac…I decided that this must be a guidance for me and am now taking two tablespoons of the syrup everyday…(I would like to state that my guidance is my own guidance and not for anyone else…though I don’t see how Essiac could hurt… not a Dr tho’)…I am drinking green tea every day at work and have made my own syrup made with Red Clover…cleavers…and dandelion…may add Cat’s Claw later… I will be ordering a Cancer diet cook book today.
I have become scared of everything that I did before…scared of coffee…scared of wine…scared of baths….scared of peanut butter ….(peanut butter :-?)…scared of microwaves….
If anyone has any other suggestions, or comments, I would love to hear them…
Going for second biopsy (not enough muscle tissue) early in March…

    Blessings to all
P.S. My strategies are not necessarily reccommended for anyone…but wanted to share them with hope of some feedback or support

OMG what a coincidence here I just saw that Peter Pan one serial # is being recalled for salimanilia. What’s with these suppliers we went thru the produce ordeal and then Taco Bell had their thing to deal with people getting food poisoning. Now it’s getting to point you just never know what is going to be next but I’m still eating lol ;) just not what I know may be bad. Best Wishes To All, Joe

Have a community well they do test and send results I have not drank the water for a few years it tastes so bad lots of chemicals. The well is located at the end of my road about 1/4 of a mile.
The people a little closer to the base have a different water system were told not to drink the water it was contaminated something from the base about 3 years ago then said it was all cleaned up now they have told them once again dont drink the water and have extended it futher. I dont trust any of the water companies buy spring water heavan only knows if that is safe.
    Dark chocolate sounds good ;)

Fallon…..i can’t believe your statistics in your neighborhood…..nevermind the peanut butter….Its Peter Pan by the way. Do you suppose they knocked off the doctor to deter the study!! Check the water!……..I actually worked in an Oncologist office at the University here on a temp basis some years ago and he had a map of the city on the wall with red stick pins in it…indicating clusters of cancer in certain neighborhoods!! They know this exists yet get that deer in the headlight look whenever you mention it to them!
I’m going on a diet of dark chocolate………..Pat

I feel your frustration Pat like you I think all the chemicals that are sprayed on the food also we cooked from scratch now there are so many instant meals you juts stick in the microwave we dont know what kind of preservatives they use.
I have a batch of neighbors that have died with cancer each of my next door neighbors and the ones across from me both husband and wife all around about 18 or more neighbors they were doing some kind of research to find the cause when the doctir was hit by a car and killed sont know waht happened to the study that was about 12 years ago not sure how many have contacted cancer since.
The only thing we had in common was most all Military and living about 5 min from the base.

Have two sisters who passed away with breast cancer a sister who had cervical cancer she survived that only to die with an asthma attack. I have been treated for cancer of the vagina,my niece was being treated for cancer of the cervex while her husband was being treated for a brain tumor.

Guess I have ranted on but to end on the peanut butter discussion just checked my cupboard and found the date was the one they have recalled today maybe will not bother eating any peanut butter until they sort that out.

Remember when they thought people who had diabetes were mentally ill? Well i don’t either but my doctor told me they actually put them in mental institutions at one time. I do remember when Dr. Sabin came up with the Polio vaccine as he was right here at Childrens Hospital. And i have no doubt that one day there will be a magic bullet for cancers. There’s so much research going on…i just read that The Cleveland Clinic has a new trial drug that drastically reduces liver tumors…..of course they’re only in mice at the moment. How come so many mice do well in trials and we don’t???.. And if it works in Liver cancers why not all tumors?…Lets hope they’re onto something there…that would be nice. Pat

That is a lot of cancer you are dealing with, Patricia.

I’m in there with you about frustration and sadness.  Yesterday at church it seemed like every other person on a 2 page prayer list had cancer.  Even the last preacher had to quit the pulpit because he got colon cancer really bad.  They say he got really despondent. :(  AND HE’S THE PREACHER.

The good news is, that we are still here.  And each day we can love our kids just a little more and help someone along the way who may be just a little worse off than us, or someone who just needs our help, period.

And we can keep supporting each other and doing all we can as individuals to rid the world of this dread disease.

There will be a cure some day and maybe even a reason.

    Take good care, my buddie,
    Rosemary

i’m not really angry….frustrated maybe. I just think we in this country are living irresponsibly. I think back to a simplier time when my grandmother cooked everything with a coffee can filled with lard or left over bacon fat…no heart disease in that family. And growing up you heard about Polio and TB but never Cancer. Now i feel its almost at epidemic proportions…i can’t believe i’m the only person who has a cluster around them of friends and family that has some type of cancer. In the past 5 years my son has had testicular cancer (thankfully there is a CURE for that one developed at Indiana University) My Father had Prostrate Cancer (early stage and curable)..i got bladder cancer, my ex-husband got Prostrate Cancer followed by neck cancer ( he just had all his teeth pulled due to radiation and they said it was unrelated to the Prostrate cancer???)my ex-sister in law has a rare form of blood cancer and just underwent stem cell transplant and is on a respirator!…My best friend at 38yrs diagnosed with colon cancer…another very close friend with breast cancer…and another with non-hodgkins lymphoma!….Thats a lot huh? And i’m finding out where and by whom you’re treated can determine your outcome. I won’t even go into my oncologists office anymore..its too depressing…its packed. I let my internist do my blood work. i’m just sad not mad.

    Patricia,

I do want you to know that I hear your anger and frustration.  It is even worse when we hear conflicting reports from researchers.  One minute coffee
does and the next minute coffee doesn’t and the same with green tea.
One minute green tea is suppose to help and the next study says that it doesn’t.
What are we suppose to think :-?

But, I don’t see how we can live and be afraid of breathing the air that we have, or drinking the water that we drink.

At one time I wanted to blame my parents for my cancer.  They smoked around us kids constantly with the windows rolled up in the car, and then my mother smoked when she was pregnant with me.  But how can I blame them when I had 4 siblings who grew up with me and who do not have any kind of cancer at all?

Please don’t think that I don’t care about your feelings.  That is not true at all.

    Your friend,
    Rosemary

    Patricia,

My goodness, you are upset.  It might be better if I just stop talking about this.  I seem to be suggesting reasons for your cancer.  And really, I don’t think that anyone knows the reasons for this cancer.

However, here is the thread that helped me through with the very issues that you are having now.

Stop……..I take a bath every night whether i need it or not!!! Ok everyone who takes a bath will get bladder cancer! I’m surprised they didn’t put that on the list along with cigarettes, dyes, and other probable unrelated things!. You could add Teflon coated pans that we didn’t know released carcinogens or how about a grilled steak? Now even the tuna fish we’re not supposed to eat more than once a week because of mercury….I really don’t mean to drive you nuts Rosemary…its just that i don’t believe its a hand we’re dealt…..i believe Greed is responsible for most cancers….Greed on the part of farmers to quickly fatten up their livestock to get it to market with antibiotics……Greed with the use of pesticides to make a prettier product…..totally irresponsible disposal of waste on the part of industry. Or how about the fact that women have been on estrogen and progesterone for years and years….doh…….. Heaven forbid they find a cure…..too many people would be out of a job…….they’d have to find a new disease……..Oh right thats what they did when they found the cure to TB….guess what cropped up……yep Cancer…..Oh and lets not forget heart disease with all our transfats and fast foods. I guess i’ve gotten to the “I’m Mad as Hell and I’m not going to take it anymore” stage!!!

    Patricia and Joe,

Please don’t hold me to what I wrote only a week or two after diagnosis.  I was not in my right mind.
Please let’s not panic about peanuts.  Or walnuts.  My doctor eventually calmed all my little fears about living everyday life.  He convinced me that I had cancer because it was the hand that I was dealt.

In fact, when I was here at the forum one time very early on,  I was moaning about being low risk, and one of the posters here told me that she had been BORN with bladder cancer.  In other words, quit moaning and deal with it.  That was how I took it, and it was good advice.

So that is what I decided to do.  It really isn’t productive to wonder why.  However, my mother now insists that I now take showers instead of baths…. :-X

Dr. Weil is a well known, well published naturopathic type of Doctor whom I only quoted because I googled peanuts/cancer/aflatoxins…

Rosemary who is Dr. Weil? OMG i just started a regimen of Walnuts because in Greece they have no cholesterol problems and they believe its because thats a staple…a handful a day…about 8 whole ones. It helps carry the fat out of the intestine and raises HDL. Now these come from my brothers walnut trees in N.California so maybe the fungus hasn’t gotten to them yet ?…Geez……..So now my cholesterol is down and i’m eating carcinogens!!! Heck i quit the spinach….and a couple of weeks ago it was the tomatos…..trade the ecoli for bladder cancer?…..I read something a long time ago about Flagyl an antibiotic connected with cancer. There are a lot of drugs on the market which doctors give which are really last resort drugs that are known to cause cancer later in life. I grew up in a Pharmaceutical family and the stories i could tell you there!…Doctors only have to take a 6 week course in Pharmacy…..Pharmacists take 6 yrs to get their degree or at least they did when my father became a pharmacist. So guess how really knowledgable they really are about drugs and interactions…..! And now they’re saying homocystenes play the real role in heart disease……. Anyway i wonder if truckers because they sit for long periods of time and need to make time to make money don’t hit the bathrooms as often as they should? I know i was in a job where the phones rang constantly and i was running the show and lord help me if i took a potty break!! I’m not giving up my peanut butter!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Rosemary I have this feeling I am not going to be that lucky but pathology did not come back yet but Dr. Wein did mention he thought it could have reached the lining or muscle by now. And Patricia everything you said there you hit the nail on the head I had most of them same thoughts. I love to see the day when they could use the word cure more and not always mentioning the cause. I for one did live like an angel does that mean I have to get cancer. And through the years I have heard of some of the craziest things they said could cause cancer. I still think alot of illnesses are caused by a gene thing and we are all made up different so you don’t know what can trigger the disease unless you have that gene, just a thought on my part. Well God Bless, Joe

    Patricia,

;D  I was scared of everything for a while after diagnosis.  I had NO risk factors, and I just was really shocked and perplexed and looking for a reason for my cancer..  I have eaten peanut butter maybe once since diagnosis. ( Because I was hungry :o).  But, I raised my kids on peanut butter thinking that I was doing them a good thing.
I do like peanut butter cookies very much, and will release my iron resolve for the sake of a cookie.
    ;D

This is from Ask Dr. Weil…

    Q  Perplexed About Peanuts?
I enjoy peanuts, or used to before I read that they contain carcinogens. Is it unhealthy to eat peanut butter, too? A nutritionist told me that as long as peanuts are dry-roasted, they are free of the fungus that is a carcinogen.
    A  Answer (Published 10/22/2002)

    Updated on 4/4/2005

The carcinogen you’re referring to is aflatoxin, a natural toxin produced by certain strains of the mold Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus that grow on peanuts stored in warm, humid silos. Peanuts aren’t the only affected crops. Aflatoxins have been found in pecans, pistachios and walnuts, as well as milk, grains, soybeans and spices. Aflatoxin is a potent carcinogen, known to cause liver cancer in laboratory animals and may contribute to liver cancer in Africa where peanuts are a dietary staple.
