Glad to see you posted here. Pat and the people here at ABLCS have the facts. Good Luck with Dr. Herr.

I am in NY. Why do you ask? I am having trouble answering from my home page.
GuestJune 13, 2010 at 11:14 pmWell i think this will ease your mind anyway…i think Dr. Herr has probably seen it all.
I don’t understand doing a biopsy that is not viable for the pathologist……thats pretty wierd.
Sent you a PM which you have to go to the home page to pick up and answer. I was curious as to where you went initially?
patSounds like you are on the right path.
Hope it is not cancer and it turns out to be easily treatable.Mike

My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of ABLCS or anyone else. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.You have done absolutely the right thing! Get a definitive answer now and a. you don’t have to worry about it for a year and b. IF it is cancer you have a year’s head start on a cure!!

Forum ModeratorI guess you can say it is a second opinion. I have mild micro hematuria. Urine cytology is negative, renal ultrasound is negative. Had a cysto done by a uro on the best dr’s in America list by C&C who works in a hospital ranked highly for urology by US World News & Reports. Uro told me the bladder was inflamned and did a biopsy. The cysto report refers to hyperemia lessions (i.e.,bloody lessions). There is no result from the biopsy because the tissue was “too small” to survive processing. The uro said don’t worry come back in a year or when you have symtoms. However, I feel that if whatever the uro saw was worth doing the biopsy in the 1st place, shouldn’t I get an answer? This is what made me do further research and come up with Harry Herr. I told Herr’s assistant my story. Herr agreed to see me and do a cysto at my first appointment. I am actually surprised that he is willing to see me because he usually take people who have been diagnosed. Even more surprised that he will do a cysto day 1. I tend to get quite scared when it comes to disease. I am really trying to gain closure or nip it in the bud. Of course my mind goes to worse case. :(
The other disconnect while the cysto report refers to “hyperemic lessions” the uro told me there is no tumor just inflammation, which is technically hypervascularization.
GuestJune 13, 2010 at 5:28 amSure have. Dr. Harry Herr saved my life 8l/2 yrs ago when i went to him for a second opinion on a T2 with CIS invasive tumor. He immediately scheduled me for a re-turb as my path slides were not acceceptable. He was able to remove all of the tumor and existing positive margins the local surgeon left behind. He’s a wizard with a scalpel and pretty much recognised as one of the top bladder cancer surgeons in the country. He has made every top doc book out there. This from Castle Connolly
http://www.castleconnolly.com/doctors/full.cfm?source=nymetro&doctorID=81CC002164
And here is his site from MSK
http://www.mskcc.org/prg/prg/bios/54.cfm
note on the right side of the page a link to his PubMed articles…really interesting.
And he’s at the #2 Cancer Hospital in the country.
Dr. Benson at Columbia very good but not the multidisciplinary team that MSK has.
Dr. Kaplan also very good at Weill Cornell
Its your choice but MSK has such a great team of bladder cancer specialists. They see more than anyone else in NYC.
Dr. Herr not big on chit chat..gets right to the point but he knows what he is doing. He’s in surgery 4 days a week and 1 day to see patients…and usually a lot of patients.
Are you going for a second opinon?
