  • Do I have bladder cancer?

    My symptoms over 3 months:

    -burning and frequent urination
    -microscopic blood in urine
-elavated psa ( 1.87 for an age of 36, normal value < 1.4). -back-pain at L5S1 region, not at kidney region. Tests done: 1-) ct scan of urinary tract (1.5 months ago): everything was normal, except 5 mm stone in the left kidney. the radiologist had an impression of a little bladder wall thickening but was not sure if this is due to an incompletely filled bladder (i went to toilet before ct scan) or due to an organic reason. He was suggesting cystoscopy to be done. 2-) cystoscopy (1.5 months ago): normal 3-) urine cytology (1.5 months ago): negative 4-) MRI of back (1.5 month ago): normal findings, except minimal bulging at L5 region. 5-) Had SWL (3 weeks ago) one time to break the kidney stone 6-) ultrasound of urinary tract (3 days ago): everything was normal except still 5 mm left kidney stone. Not: in my urine tests, always no infection but almost always crystallization. Question: What is the reason for my symptoms (burning, frequent urination and microscopic hematuria)? Can it be bladder cancer? I will be happy for feedback.

based on what you have provided, again, I’m not expert but I’d feel pretty good that its not bladder cancer –

You have a stone which can cause bleeding and pain – so a direct connection to the problems you are experiencing.

I hate that you can’t get a consensus from the group of urologists, but in a sense you have – based on what you said, none have said or implied bladder cancer.

I’d feel pretty good at this point in regards to that.

    No. no biking or running.
    I have a back-pain at L5S1 region.
In my opinion there is a connection between this pain and my urological symptoms
but doctor said no, I am confused.

Are you a runner or biker? This can cause microscopic hematuria. Honestly, with all the negative tests it does not sound like bladder cancer to me. I know someone else who has had microscopic hematuria for years. Had the work up you had plus a prostate biopsy. All negative. It happens,

i have been to 5 urologists with 5 different answers.
no one said bladder cancer but since they said different things, i lost my trust to them. one said the hematuria may be due to
kidney stone, i am doing urine tests at home with dipsticks and the result is
non-holomyzed trace. yes, i did many tests for UTI and they were negative.
i am suspicious about bladder CIS.
Other tumors could be seen on CT scan or ultrasound.
They say urine cytology is sensitive to CIS.
In my case it was negative.
Since it is a long time i have the symptoms, i always think it is bladder cancer.

Welcome and sorry you are having problems. None of us are doctors. Based on what your tests show I’d guess probably a no to bladder cancer. I presume you have had a complete panel for exotic UTI’s? That is what the symptoms tell me. Maybe it is time for a second opinion? Blood in the urine can sometimes be found with no known reason-I know a few people that do that. Sometimes runners jostle their insides causing hematuria. PSA readings from what I am told, docs look to see how fast it rises from your baseline. At the same time you really want to be sure on the symptoms. Thus my exhortation for set of fresh eyes/second opinion.
