cytology report positive
My husband recently had his CT scan and urogram at Sloan, and it was negative. (He had RC last March all clear margins and nodes) However, he was just informed that cytology results showed early cancer cells in urethera, and it will be removed next week. MD Bochner assured him that since it isn’t in lining he’ll be fine. HELP…..I am so scared; I thought all was going well with each CT scan.What can we expect now after this surgery? and what hope can we hold on to? Thanks for your supports

Thats a million dollar question sydelle……but he’s done the CT, done the urogram, done the cytology and probably FISH, checked his blood……..thats about all we’ve got right now. Keep the faith. Its been caught early. Tell Dr. Bochner your fears and ask the questions.

thank you for your quick response….and interest. I am confused though. If the wash conducted shows suspicious cells, is it possible that those cells are floating around elsewhere, and if so are there any other test to be considered?

Well you’ve got a great surgeon to do the procedure. It’s interesting that they take the urethra from the females who have an Indiana or Ilial conduit..
I know the recurrence rate is low for urethra involment after cystectomy…something like 7%…..but i think its been caught so early that your hubby should do just fine…I think thats like a stage 0.

They are going to do a removal of the urethra, which D. Bochner states needs no further oncology back up When Dr. Bochner did cystoscope, he reports he saw no lesions. I pray this is the case. My husband had been so full of life, adjusting well to RC, ostomy bag and thoughts of having fought a great battle against the dreaded original report, muscle invasive bc.I don’t want him to feel this is the path towards the ‘end’; so I am reaching out to learn and repeat all credible and experienced advice, I can pass on Thank you for encouragement about Dr. B; we feel he is one of a kind!

Sydelle..since they found suspicious cells in the cytology they’ve caught it early and the CT scan and other tests show no spread. Dr. Bochner is right to go in there and get it. Is he going to remove the urethra?..or do a laser fulgeration? Do you know the exact procedure?

How do they know from the cytology it is in the urethra? Did he have a cystoscopy also? Did they give you any more detail about it and any options?
