Hi Gizmo,
We are from East TN also. Doug sees Dr. Bowles in Oak Ridge; he is good. We have also been to Vanderbilt; it is an excellent place to get a second opinion and for more complicated surgeries.

CaregiverMy first urologist did cystoscopy and didn’t see anything and said let’s go back in and look and I just wanted another opinion. My urologist now says he sees nothing and is doing cystoscopy every 4 months. I’m in Tennessee and about 4 hours from Vanderbilt I go to university of Tennessee in Knoxville to a urologist thanks for your comment
Sorry to hear that you are still having “issues.” Did you get your second opinion at a major center that treats lots of bladder cancer? What was the original path diagnosis? Have you received BCG? What was the second urologist’s opinion on the cause of the bleeding?
It is considered good procedure to do a second TURB if there is any question at all about the original diagnosis. Often the first time a biopsy is done the doctor is sort of going in “blind.” If he is able to do a second one, the results of the first provide a sort of map so that he knows where the problem areas are and can concentrate on getting really good path samples there. Why did you not want this done? There have been multiple clinical studies that show that a second TURB can increase the accuracy of a diagnosis significantly.
Hope you are able to get this cleared up.
