  • Clear after 6 BCG treatments and cystoscope…

Thanks everyone for answering questions, especially Sara Anne. I’ve had my 6 weeks of BCG, which wasn’t easy because I am still fully incontinent from prostate cancer (removal). I had to lie on the doctor’s table at his office for two hours each treatment. But I am done and had the cystoscope and I am clear, thankfully.

I still cannot have the artificial sphincter put in because I will need cystoscopes in the future, and apparently they cannot be done with an artificial sphincter in place.

Is there a standard period of time for follow-up cystoscopes? Every 3 months or 6 months? I just got the results last night (Doctor caled) but haven’t had my follow-up visit yet.

Hi George, and glad that you DID the BCG and that it is OVER for now!

To answer your question, the usual protocol is for cystoscopy every three months until 2 years clear have passed, then every six months until you are five years out, and then once a year “forever.” Believe it or not, many of us get slight anxiety attacks when we go to less frequent exams!
