Catheter problems
On Wednesday I had my 4th BCG (only 2 more and done by Christmas!) but this time the nurses couldn’t get the catheter in. They tried a few different sizes and it just wasn’t happening. The doctor did manage to get it without too much trouble. What I’m wondering is, has anyone else had this happen? I know I should have asked the doctor if this was a bad sign or not but this guy is soo intimidating I find it really hard to ask him questions. I know, I shouldn’t be such a wuss *L*
Anybody have this happen to them?

I believe this is mostly an experience thing. I had my URO, another URO in the office do it and 2 different nurses when I took BCG. The URO’s definetly were the best at it. Some aren’t good at the catheter, some weren’t as good with the numbing jel or lube. Now, when I get a scope I just make sure my main URO does it. I’d insist whoever is doing it the best bto continue or get a better URO.
I was curious as I asked my URO: do they make UROs get cathed once in their training rotation so they know what it’s like! He smiled and said no! Figures.
DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.are these nurses experienced with giving BCG? Geez i think i’d look around for a different uro who deals with lots of bladder cancer and has a staff that also knows what they’re doing…….
