  • BOB IS HOME- 4TH DISCHARGE THE CHARM??

Posted by bobmac2 on November 24, 2007 at 1:49 pm

Good Morning All- Bob came home on Thursday afternoon- so far so good. He has had quite a ride this year what with a botched diagnosis back in Jan., to surgery on Oct.2 for a neobladder, to 3 admissions for infection, to finding a lung nodule now. We don’t have the biopsy results for the nodule yet, we aren’t even thinking about what that may mean. At the moment he is doing well- he was finally put on insulin so the diabetes is somewhat under control, the catheter is finally out & he is starting to do his Kegals. Andrea bought him a wonderful watch that can be set for 30 different alarms to remind him of important things, like eating & going to pee. He doesn’t have any control yet & constipation is rearing it’s ugly head again, but at the moment he looks a little better. Thanks to you all for your advice & good wishes- I’ll keep reading & posting. Best Regards, Lorrie

As awful as it is Eileen remember I said, “it is all about the poop, or no poop, “never thought I’d ever be writing about it but after b/c surgery it is certainly an issue. And I eat the same cereal and have the same preformance. Gene is eating it as well, keeps things moving along…Ginger

hi to all the constipated people. lol! i am not the one with BC in this house but just mentioning that i eat Fiber One cereal every single day. it has 14 grams of fiber in a half a cup of cereal. i think it tastes great and i have a real sweet tooth. it’s a general mills cereal, so it should be available everywhere. it works for me – i probably “go” about 4 times a day. good luck!

Hi All- Just a quick line. Bob is doing great, weighing in at 142 yesterday. The bowels are working- just Red River cereal & a stool softener once a day. He is staying awake longer each day & doing a walk as well. One final hurdle will be the results of the biopsy of the lung. One question though- does anyone have pain from doing the Kegals?? Is he doing them too much do you think?

well, it’s for 6 16 oz. boxes, though, so it comes out to $3.59 a box, or $5.80 a box with shipping. Thanks for the offer, though. I’ll let you know how we like it. The only thing was I had to order the 6 together. Next time, I’ll use the Canadian site. Thanks!

Stephany, if you decide you like your Red River Cereal, order it next time from this website:

http://www.canadasfood.com/product_info.php?products_id=14 its about $9 for a 48 oz box, not sure what the shipping is though. Red River is pretty cheap here, I’d be happy to ship you a box!!

I couldn’t believe the Amazon price!! ouch!!

I hope you enjoy it though! andrea

I am happy he is home, what a long road he has conquered. I will refrain from advice as my source of expertise is all about poop, prune juice, bladder bags, and chocolate milk shakes, thats the best of the bunch. Now I am on to the heart, low readings high readings, pulse rates, I liked the poop better, an easier fix.
Good luck this time, keep him comfy cozy,

OK, I found it on Amazon…..I’m always a sucker for new cereals. I ordered some. I’ve wanted to try flax seed, and now here’s my chance.

Red River? I haven’t tried that yet. I’ll have to look it up. I actually use Roman Meal (I order it off the internet because we live in a small town), and I mix it half and half with oatmeal, add honey and chopped nuts.

My husband does NOT like the flavor of oatmeal, but it works.

Thanks for the tip! I used to think that just oatmeal would do it (works for me), but he loves his Docusate.

Thank you- yes, we have a basket full of laxatives, stool softeners & suppositories. Also, I am making smoothies containing ground flax seed & making hot cereal for his breakfast (Red River- high in fibre). So far so good- he has been home nearly 3 whole days now. The nurse is coming every day for awhile to check vitals etc. He has been doing some walking to try & get some muscle back. He weighs 139 as of yesterday (that’s up a little). We won’t get the results of the lung biopsy for awhile. that’s the update for today- Lorrie

And don’t forget Dulcolax (Docusate, or other names). When my husband began taking it regularly (twice a day), he got great relief.

    Good luck!

    Lorrie,

I am so glad you have him home! Keep us posted…The Glycolax I mentioned in another post is a great “Loosing agent”…I think it is more of a softener, than a laxative, and it is also milder…causes no cramping. You mix it with any drink once a day.

Lots of Luck to you all,
    Karen
