I am 23 years old male. Exactly 6 months ago i.e 3 Jan 18, I was just going through a routine medical checkup. When i was urinating in the Urine Collection container, i noticed that an unusual thing has come out along with my urine. It was light red in color and probably 8mm in length, 1 mm in width. It was floating on top of the container. It didn’t look solid. It was more towards liquid state but it wasn’t mixing with rest of the urine. Since this thing went with the urine sample, i thought i will get to know what is it. But the Urine Routine results came normal to my surprise. No RBCs was found in microscopic analysis. This created confusion and to reduce my anxiety I went through Urine Routine one more time. But again it was normal. 15 days later I went for Renal and Prostate Ultrasound. Again the results were normal. I than booked an appointment of Urologist surgeon of Medanta hospital, topmost hospital of my country, showed him all the reports. He said that there was nothing to worry. However he said if you notice reddish urine come back to me. I wanted him to do some tests on me to rule out Big C. I was highly unsatisfied. So few days later I went to another senior surgeon of the same hospital and asked him to perform cytoscopy. But he literally scolded me for wasting my time and money and asked me to donate if i have surplus. One thing I understood that they will not perform cytoscopy on me. Till today I am not able to get over this thing. Its affecting my life. I did not see any unusual thing in my urine after that day. What should i do? Please show empathy on me. One more thing I want to tell is that I am previously diagnosed with ‘Illness Anxiety Disorder’. One thing I am damm sure is that that red stuff came in my mid stream urine. It was not my underwear thread.

    HHH,

It is not unusual for someone who notices a small amount of visible blood in their urine, liquid or a clot, ONE time only, and then gives a urine sample with no visible or microscopic blood, to be told “come back if it happens again”. About 99.5% blood in urine cases are NOT due to bladder cancer, The odds are in your favor.

Although, many of us here would have liked to had a full work-up earlier than we did. Waiting does not give us comfort.

Thank you Sir for your reply. But it is not in my hands. Surgeons that I talked to have plainly refused to do CT/Cytoscopy and instead sent me to a Psychologist. Doctors here in India don’t do radiology tests as freely as in Western countries.Regarding UTIs, I had 4 Urine Routine after that incident and all were perfectly fine.

    Welcome HHH,

Any blood in the urine is cause for concern. You want to find out why and many times it is NOT bladder cancer. Cysts, UTI’s (urinary tract infections), stones nicking the kidneys or ureter are all common. Cystoscopy and a CT scan of your torso are standard protocol to see if there are any visible cause of blood in the urine (hematuria). Good luck and ask away if you have other questions.
