BC reoccurence with/without hematuria
Posted by wood108 on November 6, 2008 at 6:37 pmHello all,
I am going in for my first checkup next week since I was pushed out to 6 months. As usually happens when the appointment gets closer, I start getting nervous and worried wondering if it’s come back.
I was originally diagnosed with a non invasive superficial tumor in Feb of 2005. My first symptom was blood in the urine. A year and a half later, I had 5 additional tumors removed, but this time there was no noticeable blood. I went through BCG treatment and have since been clean and my checkups moved out to 6 months.
I was just wondering about reoccurences with or without hematuria. Is blood normally seen with a reoccuence? My doctor says it depends on how fast the tumor grows and where in relation to a blood vessel it is. Blood may be present, but in small quantities and not noticed. I’m just wondering what other people’s experiences have been…….
Thanks,

Well my checkup on Friday was all clear. Yipee….now I can forget about it and stop worrying for 5 and 1/2 months.
Best of luck to all in your BC journey.

8 years before my Dx I saw a steady stream of bright red blood falling into the toilet along with my Urine. I was sent to a Urologist and he did a clean catheter specimen and said it wasn’t my bladder.
When I started seeing the blood again about 8 years later, I didn’t pay much
attention to it and considered it to be vaginal. I bled for months like that.I didn’t get sent to the Uro again until my next gynocology visit. The Doc found blood in my urine. I told him it wasn’t from my bladder. He made me go to the Uro anyway.
Boy, did I get a big surprise!!

Dx January 2006I originally saw a urologist because of bleeding and was diagnosed with TA and T1 tumors. This was in Oct 2006. I had a recurrence, which discovered during a routine cysto in Dec 2007. There was no bleeding involved. My TURB in Jan 2008 included infusion of Mitomycin. A couple of weeks later, I began to bleed. A subsequent TURB revealed no cancer, but the uro cauterized a small area in the bladder. This took care of the bleeding. I have since undergone 6 weeks of BCG treatment and have had no symptoms and no recurrences. Next cysto is scheduled for Dec 10. Here’s hoping for a merry Christmas.
DonI had serious pain (Dr. thought it was interstitial cystitis) months before I was referred to a urologist and the cancer was dx. I had a small taste of what pain cancer can cause. The only bleeding I saw was after the TUR following 6 BCG treatments. Lots of blood and clots. I’m winging it here, but I don’t think there is always or even mostly blood with recurrences.
Hi John, I had bleeding and five tumors taken out, ta grade 2. Eight months later more tumors but no blood. I go back in another month to be checked again. Rocky
Thanks all for the information and kind words. I’ll let you know how I make out next Friday.
John
I was first diagnosed in Jan/07. I had blood in my urine. Since that I have had 4 more reoccurances but with only one, did I have blood again.
I understand your nervousness. Heres a hug for support.((((wood))))

dx Jan 07And on the other hand, I have NEVER had even microscopic blood in my urine. Even before diagnosis of papillary and CIS when I was having “UTI”-like symptoms and great discomfort. My urologist says that this happens. Just depends, I guess.

Forum ModeratorHow about blood without recurrences? I had blood and bladder symptoms for 8 years before I had the cancer. I’ve continued to have intermittent blood and symptoms without recurrence for almost 8 years since. Not visible blood, but microscopic. Only my poke & peek will let me know, so since this is my first year with annual cysto, I try not to stress about it.

dx Ta CIS 10/07I have had 2 recurrences since 2005, neither had given me any clues.
No blood in the uriene like when the tumors were 1st discovered.
I just had my 3 month check up, and no tumors were found.
That is now 12 months cancer free.
I have had no recuurnces since I started the BCG treatments every 4 weeks, for 1 year.
I believe we all worry just before our check-ups. I know I do.
I am hopeful for you, that everything we be clear at your next appointment.
Keep us informed when you get the good news.
