Here we go again. 2 weeks of on and off minor bladder spasms and microscopic hematuria – trace blood – not very much – no white cells – negative culture. I wasn’t sure if it was anything. On the 2 occasions my urethral stricture flared up the symptoms escalated quickly and so did the amount of blood in the urine. And I did have this kind of stuff for 8 years before the cancer. Monday I decided to do a urinalysis in my office and passed a pinhead sized clot into the cup. So, is it my stricture? a recurrence of the cancer after 7 years with never a recurrence? or just my stupid bladder doing what it likes to do which I never got any reasonable explanation for? Well the little clot scared me enough. I’m not waiting around to see. My next urology visit is Wednesday, February 27, at which time I expect I’ll have my stricture dilated (yipee :P) and a cystoscopy (Oh, boy ::)).

    Warren,

Good news that there’s no new cancer, right? Sorry about the catheter; as we all know that’s a real pain >:( Kinda humorous in a dark sort of way about the checkmark next to “sex” while you still have the catheter. They say the best part of sex is mental, I suppose ;) Hope you get past this discomfort quickly. Best wishes my friend.

Did you get an idea of what they did with the stricture and how long are they keeping the catheter in this time?

Knowing you a little from your posts…you are probably back to work today :) please just take it easy and have a lovely weekend…

Yep, Back to work and walking very slowly.
The procedure involves making little cuts all the way around the stricture to open it up. The catheter stays in until Monday morning. The long-term plan is yet to be discussed. I don’t think this procedure differs from previous procedures in terms of recurrence risk for the stricture, which is high :P — but it’s not cancer. :D

Well it all sounds like good news..congrats. I’m beginning to think i’m the odd man out but with both TURBS i had i never had any blood afterwards???..In fact the second TURB at Memorial Sloan they removed the cath about 20 mins after i woke up..urine was clear so out it came. I did pee into a cup before i left which was clear and out i walked into downtown NYC and hailed a Taxi…if i wasn’t supposed to do something they sure didn’t tell me about it!!! I would have had the same problem as you regarding steps..no matter how you look at it there’s l3 steps to get into my house! pat

    Addendum to my last note:
My urologist called. Said my bladder looked fine… and he wants to see me in 3 WEEKS. Guess the nurse got the discharge instructions a bit mixed up. So I’ll tell you the next chapter in the stricture story in a few weeks, and for now, I remain the Baldder Cancer Web Café’s poster boy for Grade 3 cancer and CIS with never a recurrence in 7¼ years. Even with my catheter and my urethral pain I do appreciate how very lucky I am.

    Hi All,
I’m home with my catheter and not feeling too bad. I was waiting for a call from my urologist before I posted because the last time I saw him I was out of it and have no idea if he spoke to me, but I was told that everything was OK, so I presume that means no cancer. And now that the anesthesia has worn off enough for my brain to function I’m thinking, the urine in my bag isn’t bloody, so he couldn’t have done any biopsies, ergo, he must not have seen anything to biopsy.
As far as the stricture goes, the only thing I know is the plan is to follow up in three months. Doesn’t sound like much of a plan to me, unless he thinks he did something that will keep the stricture open better than any past procedures. Well I expect he’ll call me.
So you all want a little laugh? My post op instructions said I could resume things tomorrow. There was a check mark in the following boxes: Shower/Bath, Drive, Return to Work, Walk, Stairs, Sex. Well, I’ve got news for you — if I waited until tomorrow to use stairs, it wouldn’t be a matter of having to sleep downstairs: I’d still be standing outside my house! Sex?!? Can you do that with a catheter in ????!? I think I have a headache and it’s well below my neck.;D

    Hi All,
I finally have a date for my cytoscopy and urethrotomy – Thursday, March 13. I’m still having only minor urethral twinges (albeit big psychological ones :P). I’ll let you all know what happens.
I must say, I can’t believe how many of you lovely folks have expressed an interest in my urethra ;D. I’m much moved by the community support available here, and I’m not even one of the guys having major cancer problems – just complications.

    Warren,

I read this thread and when I got to the one on your experience at the uro’s office, I cringed (just as everybody else on this thread probably did). I was glad to hear the your stricture is not as bad this time. I hope it can be well-managed, if not cured. I know that I would even have trouble with the daily self-catheterization – would not be my favorite part of the day. Thanks for all the advice you give to others on this site and I hope you get the good news you expect about the BC.
