I have recently finished a course of BCG for Carcinoma in Situ, thought to be caused by radiation therapy I had a few years ago for Prostate Cancer.

The three month, post treatment cystoscopy and biopsy have come back clear. Whew!

However, I understand that BC, and CIS in particular, have a high recurrence rate.

I have read that bladder cancer cells prefer a slightly acidic environment in the bladder.

So I’m wondering if it’s worth taking daily Bicarbonate of Soda to increase the urine alkalinity, and have a couple of questions.

Does anybody know anything about doing this and has anybody heard of any long term side effects of maintaining a slightly alkaline urine this way?

    Thank you for any advice.

    Cheers,

    Anthony.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks heaps for pointing me to Steve Kelley’s blog – very helpful indeed.

I’ve decided to definitely press on with keeping a slightly alkaline PH; as Steve says, can’t hurt but could help.

I hope your BCG treatment gives you a great outcome.

I’m in for my next post BCG Cysto next week – fingers crossed.

All the best from a fellow airman – 20 years in the Australian Air Force.

    Cheers,

    Anthony,

You might look at Steve Kelley’s blog, “Got Bladder Cancer”, for discussion of the Alkalinity question. He talks about a checking your PH daily and taking baking soda to achieve and maintain a certain alkaline level to help thwart the cancer cells. I was just diagnosed with CIS and plan to explore the baking soda as an additional weapon in the cancer fight along with BCG treatment.

I would suspect that if there were anything to this, our doctors would be recommending it already. The best advice…don’t fool with Mother Nature!!!
