Today was the day, our visit to the Cleveland Clinic for cat scans and office visit.
Our experience went like this, first blood work was done, then Gene had to drink about 32 ounces of liquid to light up his kidneys and pelvic area to see if any return of cancer was present. He also received a injection before the test. Our office visit proved to be a happy experience, no signs of any cancer. Dr. Campbell gave us the news with a big smile on his face. Then Gene wasn’t smiling as he did a rectal exam to check the area where he once had a bladder. Next they cathed him , flushing the area taking some of the liquid for testing. An explanation was given but I left the room and Gene doesn’t remember what he said. Just can’t leave them alone for a minute..I will find out. A chest exray was done in December so there was no need for it to be done again….thats a load off for us, One comment I found interesting was, Dr. Campbell said with this cancer its likely for a reoccurrence to show up in the first 12 to 24 months. So we are safe for now, and look forward to getting the same news in 6 more months!!!!! This is what our surgeon did at the 6 months post-op, compare it to your experience, the same for you,? and the ones who have it coming up soon, THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TOO!!! Oh,,,we have an appointment on the 24th with Dr Laken, he specializes at the Cleveland Clinic in how to regain your sexual function after an r/c, the shot will be discussed, if Gene is a candidate with a heart attack and 4 stents 2 years ago.
If he gets the all clear we will give it ago, Dr. Campbell showed us where the shot is given, its not directly into the penis but in the skin at the base where it is loose.. the needle used is a diabetic needle which is very thin and short for no discomfort. I left the room then too!!! YIKEES!!! 3 people in a room looking at my husband penis, too much for me!!!

Correction: I meant a COLONOSCOPY NOT COLOSTOMY. Sorry about that.

    Gene,

The results are great and it must be a relief for the time being. The weather in Phoenix continues to be warm. Matter of fact, I see a lot of people driving with their cars’ air conditioning on, what pussies. In any event, looking forward to seeing you and Ginger on the 30th. You are staying at a great place and it is close to Fashion Square with 130+ shops, Nordstrom and all the other high end types. Ginger will probably want to spend at least a day there.

By the way,did you ask your doctor about a colostomy? Mine was several weeks ago and it came up clean, my endoscopy showed a gastritis sore in my stomach and I’m taking anti-biotics for it. I was sweating the colostomy since my colon and GI tract were the the only places we hadn’t looked to see if any cancer had spread. The gastritis doesn’t bother me, but, hopefully, the pills will get rid of the problem.

Again, I am glad to hear your great results. Have a safe flight to Phoenix.

    Regards,

    Peter

Yes Dale, I agree, women are use to unveiling themselves much more than men since we are the childbearers. So its interesting to watch when this happens to your husband. And most aren’t so inclined to talk about the sex issue as alot of people are more private about the subject. And there is alot to be said for that, but hopefully we more vocal ones help the less vocal by spilling are guts to get to the bottom of the isses. I hope it helps one and all.
And Julie, yes I watched everything after surgery, but it seems different in a office call setting, I didn’t expect it, so I stayed outside and looked at Genes scans which were on the wall outside the door, got a good look at his kidneys etc…interesting!Ginger

Congratulations on the good news from Gene’s checkup. I hope the news continues to be good. My sister just passed her 5 year CT scan after having her kidney removal due to cancer.
I’m with you on stepping out of the room when they bring out the catheter. Then I asked myself why when I watched the urologist take out his stent the last time Dick had a stent.

Ginger I know it is put in the lower part of the shaft of the penis and my brother in law back in 1977 broke his neck in a bad car accident and had some problems there he used it several times said it was great and was a piece of cake to use, hey if you want it lol whats a little needle if it works. Dang I almost forgot the best part congrats on the 6 month checkup wtg. Happy Injecting, Joe ;)

    Thanks Dale and Joe,
Obviously we would all like getting back to sex that benefits both partners, I am anxious to hear what this expert has to say, and if Gene is a candidate. From what Dr. Campbell demonstrated, while I was still in the room, the shot is put in the skin where you can pinch it, and not in the penis .Thats a little relief for the men. I will openly say we have tried and tried with what we have now, its a little exhausting,, not fulfilling for Gene, not for the lack of trying. So we will continue to find what will work, if the shot is acceptable and safe, we’ll do it!!!

Dale I had asked a long time ago if folks used MSN messenger or Yahoo messenger so easy to talk with others and with MSN I can call all over the world free all you need is a mic. Just open up a yahoo account and you can use that one or open up a Hotmail or MSN account and you can use msn messenger very easy to do. Any questions feel free to ask. It’s alot better getting to know people chatting on a messenger them PMing or posting. Joe ;)

    Ginger,

After what Gene and the rest of us have been through leading up to, during and after surgery you loose all modesty. My wife is convinced that if I hear drop your pants anywhere even on the television she will turn around and I will be half naked as so many people have seen my penis since October when I was diagnosed. The worst for me is when I was scoped in my Urologist office and his little young nurse came in and filled my penis with cold Novacane jelly and clamped it off with what looked like a big clothes pin and left me lying there by myself for 20 minutes. I am coming up for my four month cancer check which is a chest x-ray and after hearing what the 6 month check-up is I am not looking forward to that one. I will be interested in the results of the shot as I am having the same problems, I am 50 with no other health problems so I should be fine to use it. I wonder if we could all talk this open if we met face to face as it is so much easier over e-mail, but I do thank you all as besides the people on here I am the only one I know who has gone through this surgery and it helps me get through and makes me feel good thinking I can help someone else.
