Six years ago I was dx’d with bladder cancer,(Ta) and that is when I discovered this website. The best thing that could have happened to me. :) As everyone here understands, I was “shell shocked” :woohoo: . Through this website, I was supported, informed and taught how to research everything. One year later I had another visit from bladder cancer, and this time it was CIS. Of course I was scared, but with all the information and support from this site, I was ready to do battle . It has been five years and 24 BCG treatments, more cystos than I can remember and yesterday I had my five year check and CT scan …….all clear! Thank you to all that support on this site and help all that come here. You are the best!

Oh that’s right, I forgot about the recurrence. My recurrence was in 2007 and that was the only one (keeping fingers crossed).
I will keep you in my thoughts until the day in December when you get the good news!
You, Ann and I have traveled this journey together, and hopefully our posts (ups and downs) have helped others.

Nancy my 5 year is December, but I had that whole issue on the recurrence, did it come back or not during my initial follow up in May 2008. The cytology and fish were negative and two pathologists said clean. second opinion said focal CIS. The urologist at the time went back in for larger sample, cytology negative, hospital pathology said no cancer, send back to same pathologist who saw CIS and confirmed again in the second sample. But the good news I have been clear since.

    Nancy–

That is such wonderful news! Much as you may like your urologist, I’m sure you’ll be more than happy to see him/her only once a year. I’ve been following a somewhat similar schedule to yours, though my recurrence was low grade papillary tumors, and I hope to join you in the “5-year club” next May.

    Ann

Small TA Grade 1, May-06; recur (2 tiny), same, June-08; TURBTs both times. BCG begun July-08, dosage to 1/3rd May-10, completed treatment December-11. All clear since 2008.

    Joey,
Yes, the doctor said once a year. I did say I would be happy to stay on 6 month checks,(because I am such a “nervous Nancy”:) but Uro said one year would be good. After six years of this it seems odd to be on the “once a year” check. I will get used to it, because I was use to the 6 month check.
Your 5 year is near, isn’t it?

Nancy, great news. I know you had a follow up in August.

Will you now be going for checkups once a year?
